Jordin Sparks Calls Performance on DANCING WITH THE STARS ‘A Once-In-A-Lifetime Experience’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Singer Jordin Sparks is one of the celebrities who are lighting up the dance floor on DANCING WITH THE STARS each week. However, it took some time for Sparks to feel ready to join the show.
Sparks recently revealed that she had been asked to be on DANCING WITH THE STARS before, but was “too scared” to take the show up on its offer.
“[I] wasn’t ready. The timing just didn’t go right,” she shared. “Mentally, I wasn’t in the right space.”
But when DANCING WITH THE STARS called her up in 2022, Sparks thought, “‘You know what? Yes. Why not?'”
“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” Sparks explained. “[Which] doesn’t happen very often anymore. There’s not a lot of firsts, so it’s nice to be able to do something and stretch my brain.”
Sparks admitted that she still finds competing on the show scary, but has learned to handle her anxiety.
“I had to change my mentality about it, cause I was really scared,” she said. “It’s really scary to do something you don’t know and put yourself out there like that. I had to change my mentality [to be like], ‘Just have a good time. Like, this… When is this going to happen to me again?'”
Movieguide® previously reported on Sparks’ time on DANCING WITH THE STARS:
Jordin Sparks is one of the many stars joining the DANCING WITH THE STARS cast, and she recently revealed what keeps her going.
Sparks is no stranger to competing on a reality show; she rose to fame after winning the sixth season of AMERICAN IDOL. The singer is a little nervous about her upcoming turn on DWTS, but she’s embracing her anxiety.
“I want to do this because it scares me,” she shared. “It scares me, terrified is the word. I’m terrified and excited!”
Sparks also shared that her son, 4 year-old Dana Isaiah Jr, was the one to inspire her to take this step out of her comfort zone.
“I want to show him that you can be brave and scared at the same time,” Sparks explained. “So I really am doing this for him.”
She also shared that Dana is just as excited about her time on the show as she is.
“‘Where are you going, Mommy?’ He asks me every morning,” she laughed. “[I tell him] ‘I got to go to work. I got to go to rehearsal.’”
Sparks isn’t the only one in the family trying something new. Her husband, Dana Isaiah, is starting a new job, while their son is starting school.
“There’s a lot of new chapters and new beginnings happening and it feels a little frantic a little bit,” Sparks shared. “But at the same time, when I come home and I’m able to just sit with him and bond with him, we have that reconnection moment, it makes it all worth it.”
