By Movieguide® Staff
AMERICAN IDOL Season 6 winner Jordin Sparks is getting ready to deck the halls with a new Hallmark Christmas movie.
Variety reported:
Jordin Sparks will star in the all-new original Hallmark Channel movie, “A Christmas Treasure,” alongside Michael Xavier. The film, premiering as part of the network’s “Countdown to Christmas” programming event, follows writer Lou (Sparks) after she opens a 100-year-old time capsule and finds her grandfather’s journal, causing her to question whether she should move to New York after Christmas to further her career or stay in Pine Grove to carry on her family’s local newspaper.
The movie is directed by Michael Robison, who also directed A SHOE ADDICT’S CHRISTMAS starring Candice Cameron Bure. A SHOE ADDICT’S CHRISTMAS was nominated at the Movieguide® Awards for the Epiphany Prize® for Most Inspiring TV Program.
Sparks is outspoken about her faith and how her walk with Jesus helped her both personally and in her career.
“Before giving my life fully to God, my life and my heart was only half in it,” she shared on Facebook. “I was lukewarm, which is pretty much the worst thing that you can do.
The musician and actress urge others to also trust God and find purpose in Him.
“I want to encourage you to trust God with your life. He’s been so faithful to me and never abandoned me,” she continued. “I know He will do the same for you.”
Sparks speaks on her excitement to be apart of Hallmarks Countdown to Christmas movie selection.
“Christmas is so special to me and I’m thrilled that I get to share this festive movie with you all this year,” said Sparks. “I loved being able to perform some of my favorite Christmas melodies, one for the first time, as part of the movie. Joining the Hallmark family is a dream come true! I know people are going to fall in love with Lou and our story that truly represents the phrase, ‘Home is where the Heart is.’”
Sparks will also cover classic Christmas songs along with her original song “Oh, It’s Christmas”.
Variety reported:
The “American Idol” winner delivers her own renditions of two classic Christmas songs, “This Christmas” and “Oh Holy Night.” Sparks’ original song “Oh, It’s Christmas,” from her album “Cider & Hennessy,” will also be featured in the film.
