Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt recently reflected on how her parenting style mimics that of her father, Arnold Schwarzenegger, especially when it comes to chores and discipline.
“I guess [we’re] more traditional with the chores and also the implementation of the chores and the strictness of the chores,” Schwarzenegger Pratt said on the “Cat and Nat Unfiltered” podcast, sharing how the structure has “brought back flashbacks” to her childhood. “And this is like, probably a little bit of my father coming out, but my dad had no patience or excuses for not doing your chores.”
She shared an example of just how seriously her dad took getting chores done.
“I was brought home from my semi-formal because I didn’t take my clothes out of the dryer and fold them and put them away,” Schwarzenegger Pratt revealed. “And I came home from the semi-formal because of that. My dad was very strict about it.”
Although she didn’t understand then, Schwarzenegger Pratt now holds her children to similar standards.
“And I was always like, ‘This is terrible. How could you do this to us? Nobody has chores like this.’ Now I’m like, we’re doing the same thing,” she admitted.
Schwarzenegger Pratt shares her three children — Lyla Marie, 5, Eloise Christina, 3, and Ford Fitzgerald, 1 — with husband Chris Pratt.
She celebrated Ford’s first birthday on Instagram a couple of weeks ago.
“One! Happy 1st birthday my boy! I love you to the moon and back my little prince 🥳” she captioned the post alongside a sweet carousel of photos.
As their family expands, Chris and Katherine are learning how to parent successfully together.
“We do a really good job communicating,” she said. “It’s something that was really important to both of us from the beginning and continues to be really important to us as life gets busier and crazier, especially as you add more children into the mix.”
“He has a lot of strengths that I don’t have, and I have certain strengths that maybe he doesn’t have,” Schwarzenegger Pratt added of their relationship.
“We are a great team. I think it’s always keeping in mind that we’re a team and that we’re doing our best to tackle all the different things. We’re also very present in this beautiful season of life of having young children and getting to spend a lot of time with them. It’s such a sweet time.”
It seems like her dad’s rules growing up are helping Schwarzenegger Pratt excel at motherhood!
