LA Rams WR Cooper Kupp on NFL Career: ‘God is Just So Good’

By Movieguide® Contributor

From the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft to 2022 Super Bowl LVI champion, Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp puts his faith ahead of football.

Kupp played college football at Eastern Washington University from 2013 to 2016. He finished his college career as the FCS (Football Championship Subdivision) all-time leader in receiving yards, receiving touchdowns and receptions.

The Los Angeles Rams selected Kupp in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He quickly established himself as a reliable target for Rams quarterbacks, known for his sure hands, route-running skills and ability to make tough catches in traffic.

In 2017, Kupp collected over 800 receiving yards and five touchdowns, and he had evident chemistry with quarterback Jared Goff. In 2018, he was off to a fantastic start but suffered a season-ending injury mid-season.

However, Kupp’s breakout season came in 2019 when he played a pivotal role in the Rams’ offense. He formed a dynamic receiving trio with Robert Woods and Brandin Cooks. Kupp finished the season with over 1,100 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns.

Then, in 2022, Kupp’s career reached a new level when his team won the Super Bowl. But despite his success, he knows that his purpose is to honor God.

Kupp shared a statement on X after he received a contract extension with the LA Rams.

“The Los Angeles Rams made a childhood vision a reality when they showed their belief in me on draft day…and today they showed continued faith,” Kupp began. “For that, I want to thank the Kroenke family, the front office, and Coach Movay. God is good.”

“On the mountains and in the valleys, He has been with us every step of the way. While we have been afforded the privilege to play such an amazing game, it is with humility we know each moment here is intentional, albeit temporary. We pray each day to be a light in this world, filled and guided by His spirit, and to make the most of every day according to His will. For His Glory!” he concluded.

Before Super Bowl LVI, Sports Spectrum asked Kupp if he could share what God had taught him throughout the season.

“I think the thing that He has taught me is that you will find that you are most fulfilled, you will find the most joy, when you are rooted in your purpose, and specifically rooted in His purpose for you,” Kupp expressed.

Following the championship game win, Sports Spectrum shared a video of Kupp on the podium.

“I don’t know, I don’t feel deserving of this. God is just so good. I’m just so thankful for the guys I get to be around, for the coaches, for my family,” Kupp expressed with gratitude.

In addition to being a Super Bowl Champion, Kupp recently welcomed a new baby boy to his family.

The wide receiver shared on his Instagram, “Solas Reign Kupp! ☀️ Born into his mother’s arms, we are so thankful for the blessing of this third little soul we get to raise up into a man of God!

“The Lord bless you and keep you, the Lord make his face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace.” Numbers 6:24-26”

Kupp is ready to begin the regular season as he strives to put his faith first and lead his team to another Super Bowl championship.

Movieguide® previously reported on Kupp and his family’s faith:

LA Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp put up historic regular season numbers to propel his team to the Super Bowl against the Cincinnati Bengals.

The 28-year-old receiver led the league in total receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. Paired with Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, Kupp set several NFL records, including total catches (170) and receiving yards (2,333).

Kupp, along with his wife Anna, celebrated the trip to Super Bowl LVI on social media.

“This moment. These moments!!! Thanking God for every one of them,” Anna wrote on Instagram. “We have prayed for a season to glorify our Savior Jesus Christ and you are doing just that my lovey @cooperkupp. SURREAL!!”
