Lindsay Lohan often made headlines for her wild teen and young adult years, but she says part of that was because she wasn’t protected enough.
“Why didn’t anyone just go and take me out of there, protect me more?” she said in a recent interview. “You don’t know how to do that yourself when you’re a teenager.”
As THE PARENT TRAP star’s fame grew, she frequented LA clubs and disregarded authority. She has been arrested six times, per ABC.
“It was all so overwhelming and consuming,” she said. “I should have listened to my mom and dad and moved back to New York. But I was young and wanted to be in LA. And I didn’t know.”
“So yeah, while a lot of it was fun, it was hard when I was young. It was a double-edged sword,” she said.

Eventually, she got away from Hollywood when she felt like the fun ran out.
“It’s not a life I wanted to live, you know? It’s not a real life,” she explained.
“It pushed me so far away that I moved to the other side of the world. And I’m so glad I followed my gut,” she said.
She moved to Dubai in 2014. She met her now husband, Bader Shammas, and they share a son, Luai.
“We’re so good together because he’s so calm and I’m like a firecracker. We have a great balance,” Lohan explained.
She added, “Being in Dubai is very grounding. I get to just spend time with my family. The city gives me a sense of being with what’s most important.”
At 39, she believes her age has given her confidence.
“With age comes a different kind of confidence. When I was younger, I wasn’t so comfortable saying how I felt about a character and being involved with the process of it. And I love that part now,” Lohan explained.
In 2018, she said of her partying years, “I’m a normal, nice person. A good person. I don’t have any bad intentions.”
“And my past has to stay in the past,” she continued. “People have to just let go of it and stop bringing it up because it’s not — it’s gone. It’s dead. And that’s the most important thing to me.”
In recent years, Lohan has gotten back into acting. She starred in several light-hearted romances, a FREAKY FRIDAY SEQUEL and her latest project, a miniseries titled COUNT MY LIES, with Shailene Woodley and Kit Harington. The release date is yet to be announced.
