Actor Kelsey Grammer recently opened up about the loss of his aborted children in his new memoir, Karen: A Brother Remembers.

In his memoir, Grammer recounts the rape and murder of his younger sister and his girlfriend’s pregnancy in 1974. Grammer was willing to have the baby, but his partner wasn’t. He regrets not pleading with her to save the child’s life.

“I know that many people do not have a problem with abortion, and though I have supported it in the past, the abortion of my son eats away at my soul,” Grammer wrote.

“I supported the idea that a woman has the right to do what she wants with her own body. I still do,” he said. “But it’s hard for me. Still is.”

The event happened six months before his sister was murdered.

“[I] volunteered to have my son’s body vacuumed out of his mother’s. I regret it. That’s all I meant to say,” he said.

He criticized doctors, saying that abortion is contradictory to their purpose, which is to help and heal.

“…So-called doctors, who have executed generations of children in this manner — I have no idea how they call themselves doctors. Something about the ‘first, do no harm’ thing. But I offer no controversy.”

Later in life, Grammer expected twins with his wife, Kayte Walsh, but the second baby’s sac ruptured at 13 weeks.

“Doctors advised us his continued growth without the safety of his amniotic fluid would surely kill him and probably take Faith too,” Grammer recalled. “It did not repair.”

“We killed our son so Faith might live. We wept as we watched his heart stop,” Grammer said.

“It is the greatest pain I have ever known. Kayte’s scream was enough to make a man mourn a lifetime,” he wrote.

At the time of Faith’s birth, Grammer said, “We were ecstatic earlier this year, when we announced that Kayte was carrying twins. Tragically we lost the little boy shortly thereafter. This was not something we cared to make known publicly at the time.”

“It was unspeakably painful and we know that people will understand our desire to keep the news private then, as we know they will respect our privacy in this matter now,” he said. “A glorious birth with a lingering sadness is ours today. We choose to celebrate the life that has been given us.”

The couple also suffered a miscarriage before their twin pregnancy, according to Page Six.

The FRASIER star is the father of seven surviving kids: Spencer, 41, Greer, 33, Mason, 23, Jude, 20, Faith, 12, and sons Kelsey, 10, and Auden, 8.
