Luke Bryan Says Dads Set ‘Example’ for Sons: ‘They Lean on Us’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Country music star Luke Bryan recently reflected on raising sons.

During an interview with Hook and Barrel, the singer shared how he teaches his “boys to be men before the world teaches them otherwise.”

“First of all, your boys are going to watch their dad. I even reflect on that sometimes.  Just last week, I had to tell one of my boys, ‘I know you have seen me do this… but that doesn’t mean you do it,'” he reflected. “But it all starts with the father in the home—they lean on us as the example. I did it with my dad. I mean, my wife tells me once a week, ‘You sound like your daddy.'”

He added that some of his habits, especially when it comes to hunting, come from his dad. “I do it the same way he did it, and now my boys do it too,” Bryan explained.

The country star shares sons Thomas “Bo” Boyer Bryan, 15, and Tatum “Tate” Christopher Bryan, 13, with his wife, Caroline.

“I think, too, through all their good days and bad, you have to uplift them,” he continued. “To teach them to cut themselves some slack. I have seen this world put pressures on my boys that I never even thought about when I was a kid. Especially in my case, just because they are my children, I have to sit them down and remind that it will be ok.”

“Positive reinforcement and being stern with them,” Bryan added. “Also, they watch the way I treat my wife. When they see me wrap my arms around my wife, and love on her, they associate that with the way you show affection—they pick up on all of that.”

Fellow country star Jason Aldean also reflected on the power parents have.

“You’re a product of your environment,” he said. “The home and the parents are the biggest part of that. You lead by example. Being a parent and trying to navigate what’s going on in the world is extremely tough right now.”

Movieguide® recently reported on Luke Bryan:

Award-winning country singer Luke Bryan recently told podcast hosts Rob Stone and Holly Hutton all about a fishing trip he wants to go on with his family of four this year.

“I’ve done an Amazon peacock bass fishing trip. My children know that I’ve done it, and they want to go do it,” the singer said.

Bryan and his wife Caroline share sons Bo, 15, and Tate, 13.

“It’s all about including the family on these things too,” Bryan said. “I’ve got a lot of crazy little things that we’ll try to check off the list as a family. I’ve done a really, really great job of brainwashing [my] children into doing exactly what I like to do.”

Bryan loves fishing with his kids and even wrote a song called “Huntin’, Fishin’ And Lovin’ Every Day.”
