Christian rock band Third Day turns 30 this year, and frontman Mac Powell is ready to celebrate.
The band embarked on their anniversary tour with Zach Williams in March, when they played together for the first time since 2018.
“The last time we played as Third Day was 2018. That was our farewell tour,” Powell told ChurchLeaders ahead of his performance in Fairborn, Ohio, last week. “But as you’ll hear tonight, I talk about a little bit at the end of the show that it was kind of bittersweet because it wasn’t the full band.”
Now that the gang’s all here again, Powell says they have a lot of fun. However, he doesn’t know what will happen next. Powell has been a solo artist since the band broke up in 2018.
“I say it every night, we don’t know what the future holds. We have no idea what’s next,” he said. “But we’re excited about the possibilities of something happening. We’ll see.”
As he reflects on his long music career, he says God has been faithful through and through.

“I’ve been very fortunate in my life to not have many major things happen, bad things,” he continued. “But there have been a handful of those things. And even in those times and those seasons, I found that God is faithful and He is loving and He is who He says He is.”
He admitted one of his biggest regrets as a band member was working too much and not taking enough time off. He believes the whole group would have benefitted from that.
“I think that’s probably the thing I would do different,” Powell said.
Now, he sees God move when Third Day performs.
“I just encourage people every night that the reason you connect with these songs is because of your faith,” Powell said. “You’re drawn to God, and don’t let that be something that’s just in your past. Let that be something that’s happening today.”
The band wrapped up their tour on Monday.
Powell wrote, “30 years later and I’m still blown away by what God has done through these songs and this band. Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate with us on the 30th Anniversary Tour. Ending it at home in Atlanta was something I’ll never forget. See you down the road.”
The band has one final get together at Red Rocks Amphitheater on June 18. Michael W. Smith, Matt Maher, Jon Reddick and Brandon Heath will also perform.
