How Madison Prewett Troutt Discovered Her Worth is Found in Christ

Former THE BACHELOR contestant Madison Prewett Troutt just launched her new podcast, the “Stay True Podcast.” In her first episode, she shared her story about past struggles and her journey of finding God.
“I grew up in a small town, born and raised in this small town in Alabama, and really spent all of my time at the church or in a basketball arena,” she shared.
“[I] was raised in a very Christian home, Christian environment. Faith was such a big part of my family and my upbringing.”
Troutt shared how, when she was 13, her family moved to Auburn, which was very hard for her.
“My relationship with God really just started becoming way more focused on what other people thought about me. It was very reputations-based,” she said.
“[I] really just served God and loved God for all the wrong reasons. And really while I was, you know, saying that I was this Christian, I was also living in secret sin and living in constant shame and didn’t know how to confess that to people, didn’t know how to bring that into the light and be honest about my struggles,” she revealed.
When Troutt got into high school, her first boyfriend cheated on her, and it changed how she saw her worth.
“From that place, I felt like I had to strive and prove myself and prove that I was worthy of love. I felt like I had to prove that I was worthy of being picked, that I was worthy of someone’s first choice. I felt like I had to strive to prove my worth,” she explained.
Troutt continued to struggle with feelings of rejection throughout college until, one day, she cried out to God.
“I remember in that moment just asking God, ‘Will you tell me who I am?’”
“I feel like I saw this picture of young little girl Maddie, and it was like I saw Jesus, and he just, he put this crown on me and—it like makes me emotional thinking about it because all along what I had been hungry for and what I had been longing for was belonging,” she recalled. “Like, I was longing for belonging, and in that moment…he put that crown on me, and he said, ‘You are my daughter with whom I am well pleased and I love you.’”
Troutt has big plans to share even more on her podcast. In a recent Instagram post, she revealed, “I have prayed about starting this podcast for 3 years and I can’t believe it’s finally out. This is a podcast where vibes and values meet. We’ll laugh, we’ll cry, we’ll grow and together learn how we can stay true.”
In a recent episode, she opened up about why she went on THE BACHELOR.
“I’m going to talk about something that I have been asked probably by thousands of people. And this is something I’ve been waiting to do for a long time…this is going to be fun. This is going to be hard. I’ve actually never really talked about this before,” she said on Instagram.
Movieguide® reported on the episode:
Being on THE BACHELOR was not something Madison Prewett Troutt ever planned for, but through events that were out of her hands, God showed her that it was His plan for her…
While in the small group, a few of her close friends told her she should go on THE BACHELOR. She told them she “will never” go on the show. However, her friends sent in an application for her and didn’t tell her.
So, on an ordinary day when Troutt was at the gym, she got a call from ABC.
“I remember being so confused. I thought it was a prank call…I was like, ‘I didn’t apply for your show, and why are you asking me to come on?’” she said…
Then, in church, as she felt overcome with fear and uncertainty, someone laid a hand on her shoulder and said, “God told me to come tell you, you can do this, and he has prepared you for such a time as this. You have what it takes to stay true. You have what it takes to stand firm, and you’re going to have to trust him.”
“I was like, ‘What? this is crazy.’ Like, every single thing I was telling God, I don’t feel like I can do this, like, what if this, what if that…He was speaking directly to that…I remember having that moment being like, ‘God, you see me, you hear me, and if you were calling me to this like, you will sustain me through it.’”
