Morally Uplifting TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Scores at Box Office

By Movieguide® Contributor

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: MUTANT MAYHEM has made its mark at the box office despite heavy competition from movies like BARBIE and OPPENHEIMER.

MUTANT MAYHEM collected $15 million in its second week in theaters, placing third at the domestic box office. With its total gross reaching $72.8 million after this weekend, the movie has now surpassed its reported budget of $70 million.

The big-name cast helped draw a large audience, with voice talent including John Cena, Jackie Chan, Ice Cube and Hannibal Buress. MUTANT MAYHEM also captured a family audience through its emphasis on morals.

A portion of Movieguide®’s review reads:

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: MUTANT MAYHEM tells a rousing, funny story, with a unique animated look. The characters sometimes talk over one another too much, however. MUTANT MAYHEM has a strong morally uplifting worldview. The stepfather of the four turtles has a strong fatherly concern for them and their wellbeing. The movie also promotes doing the right thing. MUTANT MAYHEM has some intense violence, scary creatures and foul language. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for older children.

MUTANT MAYHEM is a reboot of the series that sets the ninja turtles on a new path. Moving away from the live-action direction previous installments pursued, the new movie adopted a striking animated art style.

This change has been a hit with the critics, returning the franchise to its ‘80s roots. While the movie follows a similar animation style to other recent successes, like PUSS IN BOOTS: THE LAST WISH and SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE, it keeps itself distinct from these movies through unique character designs.

MUTANT MAYHEM’s success continues to show that family-friendly, moral movies always have a spot at the box office.

Movieguide® previously reported:

Ultimately, mainstream media is afraid to admit that Christian or strong moral content is a large factor in what makes a movie successful.

Time and time again, Christian and morally centered movies succeed above their amoral and Anti-Christian counterparts. Much of the box office’s recovery from the pandemic lockdowns can be attributed to morally strong movies drawing people into theaters. The world is hungry for Christian and moral content and that’s why movies that provide that type of content succeed.

Movieguide®’s annual Report to the Entertainment Industry outlines that movies with immoral content (excessive foul language, violence, and sex) consistently perform worse at the box office.

Moreover, movies with moral worldview elements, family-friendly content, and other Christian themes succeed.
