By Movieguide® Contributor

A new season of A REAL BUG’S LIFE is coming soon!

“Narrated by the hilarious Awkwafina (THE FAREWELL, CRAZY RICH ASIANS), season two dives even deeper into the weird, wild and wonderful world of bugs, and proves that a real bug’s life is just as dramatic as their animated Pixar counterparts,” a press release from Disney reads. “This season, get ready for more high-stakes battles, enchanting love stories and mind-blowing superpowers (yes, bugs with superpowers!) in a season packed with some of the most extraordinary tiny characters you’ll ever meet.”

The statement also revealed that viewers will get “a special, behind-the-scenes look at the filming of this epic series spanning two seasons featuring 130 bug species across six continents with 450 experts and crew.”

A REAL BUG’S LIFE is a documentary series that teaches viewers about the lives of a variety of different bugs. The first season was well-received by audiences and critics.

Season 2 of A BUG’S LIFE will include five episodes, titled “Love In The Forest,” “Life’s A Beach,” “Once A Pond A Time,” “Tiny Heroes Down Under” and “Bee-Hind The Camera,” per Businesswire.

Some of the bugs highlighted in the upcoming season include the Malaysian tiger beetle, the American stag beetle and the peacock spiderling.

The crew of A BUG’S LIFE uses cutting-edge technology to collect their footage, including long probe lenses and macro lenses.

“Before when we had macro lenses, they were all quite long, and the background would be really smooshy with everything out of focus,” director of photography Nathan Small told Ars Technica. “We tried to shoot everything from very low, very wide angles with lots of context, so you can experience the world from the point of view of the animal and see how it sits in its location, rather than just a smooshy background.”

Insect wrangler and zoologist Tim Cockerill added, “Most animals are tiny. So to be able to use this technology to shrink ourselves down, it opens up the other 90 percent of the animal kingdom that we’ve never been able to consider before. All the moments of happiness, excitement, fear, and drama that we have in our own lives? All of those things are happening in the lives of bugs as well. So we’re hopefully opening people’s eyes to what’s going on beneath our feet and changing their perspective a little.”

Season 2 of A REAL BUG’S LIFE will premiere on Disney+ Jan. 15.
