Nearly two years after Warner Bros. Animation shelved it, THE DAY THE EARTH BLEW UP: A LOONEY TUNES MOVIE has received a release date.
The movie, initially planned to go on Max, has since been acquired by Ketchup Entertainment and will hit theaters Feb. 28, 2025.
“THE DAY THE EARTH BLEW UP: A LOONEY TUNES MOVIE features beloved comedic duo Porky Pig and Daffy Duck as unlikely heroes who become the planet’s only hope when faced with the threat of alien invasion,” Animation Magazine reported.
The outlet continued, “The animated sci-fi comedy adventure is described as ‘a richly-crafted story told on a scope and scale that’s out of this world, with all the laugh-out-loud gags, vibrant visuals, and beloved characters who make the Looney Tunes so iconic.’ It features the voices of acclaimed actors Eric Bauza (as Daffy and Porky), Candi Milo (Petunia Pig), Peter MacNicol, Wayne Knight and Laraine Newman.”
“For generations, the Looney Tunes have held a soft spot in the hearts of fans the world over, including my own,” Gareth West, the CEO of Ketchup Entertainment, said in a statement. “It’s a true pleasure to bring into theaters Peter Browngardt’s hilariously smart, emotional, and gorgeously rendered story for fans and movie-lovers of all ages to experience a wholly new and original cinematic adventure with our friends, Porky and Daffy.”
Some Looney Tunes fans are hoping another movie will follow in THE DAY THE EARTH BLEW UP’s footsteps.
COYOTE VS. ACME was permanently shelved by Warner Bros. in an effort to save money. Deadline reported the studio took “a $70M writedown on the completed feature in Q3 earnings” by not putting the movie out.
Will Forte, one of the movie’s stars, shared his disappointment that audiences will never see COYOTE VS. ACME.
