NFL Player Godwin Igwebuike: ‘I Had No Choice But To Surrender It All To God’

By Movieguide® Staff

NFL player Godwin Igwebuike’s amazing journey is hitting the screens with a new documentary, THE LONG WAY.

THE LONG WAY, written and produced by Igwebuike, shows the highlights of his professional football career.

Igwebuike was recruited from Northwestern to play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2018. However, just a year later, Igwebuike had already bounced around to four different teams.

He then joined the XFL, where he played for the Seattle Dragons until COVID-19 forced the league to shut down for the season.

Igwebuike went home to Ohio, but continued to work out and stay in shape, just in case an opportunity presented itself.

In the documentary, Igwebuike talked about how he prayed every night, looking for guidance on his next move. It was during one of his prayers that he heard God tell him he would become a running back.

“No [kidding], I was just in my spirit praying to the Lord and He’s like, ‘Yo, you’re going to be playing running back,’” Igwebuike said after his first NFL touchdown in 2021. “I’m like, ‘Yo, Lord, like chill out. There’s no way. Maybe I’ll play semi-pro somewhere, play running back.’ But He’s like, ‘You’re going to play running back.’ I’m like, ‘All right Lord, we’ll see what happens.’”

In 2021, Igwebuike was signed to the Detroit Lions — as a running back.

THE LONG WAY shows Igwebuike’s dedication to football, as well as his faith in God’s plan for him.

“Many days I doubted myself,” Igwebuike explained. “Many days I didn’t feel confident. Many times, I felt more fear than courage. [On] those truly humbling days, I had no choice but to surrender it all to God.”

THE LONG WAY is available to stream on YouTube.
