NFL Star Helps Save Man from Firey Car: ‘[God] Will Send His Angels’

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver K.J. Osborn believes God put him in the right place to help rescue a man from a burning car in the early hours of March 6.

“Most of the time the saying goes ‘wrong place wrong time.’ But this time I believe God had me, us, at the right place at the exact right time,” Osborn wrote on Twitter.

“Last night myself and three absolute heroes helped save a man’s life by rescuing him from a vehicle up in flames after a bad crash,” Osborn continued. “A situation I’d never imagine being a part of in a million years.”

“I’ll leave you with this,” he concluded. “God is real and his LOVE is real. He will send his angels to be camped around you and provide you with his grace and mercy.”

Osborn had been in Austin, Texas, visiting friends when he came across the car crashed into a freeway overpass pillar during a late-night Uber ride. Out of concern for anyone in the car, the Uber driver pulled over to see if they could help.

While Osborn approached the car with caution, fearing an explosion, the Uber driver rushed in without fear and opened the door. The man trapped inside the car could move to the passenger side, allowing Osborn, the Uber driver and two other bystanders to pull him out.

“That’s when I picked him up,” Osborn said. “He’s bleeding all over my shirt and everything, and I pick him up and I carry him about 10 to 15 yards so this way we’re away from the car.”

From there, the car’s driver was taken to a hospital with injuries disclosed by the police as non-life threatening. The cause of the wreck remains under investigation.

Osborn is a longtime Christian, using his platform to help others, especially through year-round work with the Salvation Army. His Twitter bio reads, “Put God 1st.”

Last fall, Osborn partnered with The Salvation Army in a television ad campaign to recruit bell ringers for the Red Kettle donation drive, serving as a bell ringer himself during the holiday season.

Osborn also uses his own resources to help impoverished families, the blessings of like he received while growing up.

“Once or twice my mom walked into the (apartment) management office and they said somebody paid our rent,” Osborn said. “That was a huge thing for a single mother with two kids. For me to be in this position now, I want to do that for somebody else.”
