Nintendo Launches Music App — Will You Use It?
By Movieguide® Contributor
Nintendo launched a music app allowing users to listen to their favorite Nintendo songs on their smart devices.
The new app, “Nintendo Music,” allows users to listen to songs from a variety of Nintendo’s franchises. Songs from “Super Mario Bros.,” “The Legend of Zelda,” “Kirby,” “Pikmin,” “Animal Crossing,” “Metroid,” “Splatoon 3,” “Donkey Kong Country” and more are available for streaming or download through the app.
The new service will also feature playlists based on select characters, themes and moods. Users can create their own playlists to consolidate their favorite songs. Other features include the option to extend or loop certain songs for up to 60 minutes and the ability to hide the music from certain games to avoid spoilers.
Nintendo Music is now available and comes for free for every subscriber of the Switch Online service ($3.99 per month or $19.99 per year). A trailer for the app is available to watch here.
The introduction of a music app coincides with Nintendo’s launch of an alarm clock which features many of its games’ classic songs to set as the alarm. The device has a surprising array of features including the ability to play music at bedtime, an alarm that gets louder the longer it’s on and a motion tracking feature through which it plays sounds as you move around in the morning.
The release of both of these products highlights Nintendo’s plan to get more involved in the everyday lives of its fans. The company has taken this approach on and off through the years through a variety of methods such as a Pokémon game that served as a pedometer and the release of Pokémon Go which had people checking their phones for Pokémon constantly throughout the day.
Beyond its recent gaming success, Nintendo was everywhere last year thanks to THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE, and next year fans will be able to experience Super Nintendo World at Universal Orlando Resort.
