The Hallow App asked Jonathan Roumie to read the Gen Z version of the Bible, and THE CHOSEN actor could not keep a straight face.
Roumie is no stranger to reading the Bible aloud for the Hallow app, but this is the first time he’s had such a hard time stifling a laugh.
He could barely make it through, “Blessed are you when the ops hate you, cap and raigebait you.”
“Nothing like seeing what REALLY goes on behind the scenes! 😂” he shared on Instagram. “Enjoy these bloopers from the ‘BeatitudZ’ shoot with @hallowapp! Keeping a straight face while filming these was LEGIT IMPOSSIBLE. 👀🎬🤣”
He noted that he had to ask one staff member to step out so that he couldn’t see her face, which made him laugh more.

“I had such a blast filming these and immersing myself in the foreign language that is Gen Z slang, even if I didn’t (and still don’t) understand most of it. 🫣😵💫🫨” he said. “Lowkenuine 🥰 big up to the crew at Hallow helping put together this fire series before we kick off Pray40.”
“🔥👊🏽 As we get ready for Lent, join me in taking a social media break and meditate with the Beatitudes on Hallow today 🙏🏽✝️❤️ #bloopers #genzslang #feelingunc #noideawhatsomeofitmeans,” he finished.
He also shared the edited version of him reading all the Gen Z beatitudes — laughter edited out.
“Gen Z has been cooking this year, filling up the jubilees and NCYC with peak attendance and boosting Bible sales.🫨📖📈 So- I wanted to give something back to the ‘chat’: 😉🙏🏽👊🏽… Thank you to my friends at Hallow for helping put this whole series together. I hope you had as much fun watching as we did making these. 🤣🤣” he said.
Besides appearing in THE CHOSEN, Roumie has reached Gen Z in a lot of different ways.
In 2023, a group of Gen Z fans got to tour THE CHOSEN set in Utah. They weren’t expecting to see Roumie, so he gave them a surprise, resulting in a lot of happy screams, hugs and questions.
“God is calling you,” Roumie told a Gen Zer who was doubting God’s existence. “He wants to know you on a deeper level. And so that tug that you’re feeling, that’s Christ trying to get to know you; that’s what that is.”
After Roumie told him that, it brought the young man to tears.
“It’s one of those moments I will truthfully cherish for the rest of my life,” he said.
Hallow users can join Roumie for the app’s Pray40 challenge for Lent this month.
