Popular Rap Artist Lecrae Performs on Movieguide® Awards Telecast Saturday

By Jared Laffite, Contributing Writer

Rap artist Lecrae is making waves in America as one of the most outspoken Christians in the hip-hop community. His commitment to challenge the culture with the Gospel is one of the reasons Lecrae was invited to perform at the 23rd Annual Movieguide® Awards telecast this Saturday, 7 p.m. Eastern time and 4 p.m. Pacific, on the REELZChannel.

Lecrae Moore truly is a pioneer in the world of hip hop, especially for those who share his Christian faith. Originally from Texas, the 35-year-old rap artist spent his childhood in different areas of the country before attending college at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. After hearing the Gospel by a preacher named James White and later surviving a traumatic car accident, Lecrae gave his life to Jesus.

Five years after his conversion, Lecrae teamed up with a friend, Ben Washer, to found Reach Records, his current label. Lecrae crafted several albums, each more successful than the last, and eventually gained mainstream recognition with a mixtape entitled “Church Clothes.”

Following the success of his mixtape, Lecrae released “Gravity,” on Sept. 4, 2012, to critical acclaim. The album’s release helped cement Lecrae’s influence in the mainstream hip hop market. It debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, and it also debuted at No. 1 on the Christian, Gospel, Independent, and Rap Album charts. Following the album’s success, Time wrote an article about Lecrae.

In 2014, Lecrae broke into the US Billboard 200 as #1 with his album, “Anomaly.” Since its release,  Lecrae has sold 240,000 copies of the album.

Lecrae is sought after as a spiritual advisor by several professional athletes and sports teams. He frequently appears on major media outlets and stands as a unique figure in the music world, bridging Christian and non-Christian hip hop listeners. He’s a highly regarded speaker and social activist. As his seventh studio album, “Anomaly,” suggests, he’s hard to fit into any particular cultural box. . . which gives him a unique place in God’s work.

Tune into the Movieguide® Awards Saturday on the REELZChannel, 7 p.m. Eastern time and 4 p.m. Pacific to catch Lecrae’s performance.
