Baltimore Ravens kicker Tyler Loop relied on his faith during the biggest moment — and disappointment — of his career.
In a winner-takes-all game on Sunday evening, Loop missed the game-winning field goal that would have sent the Ravens into the playoffs; instead, the Pittsburgh Steelers secured the final spot.
Despite the missed opportunity, the athlete decided to lean on his faith in God to get him through this hardship.

“Faith is a big part of my life,” Loop declared in a post-game press conference. “And right now, I’m reading the book of Romans, and in Romans 8, it says, ‘And God works for the good of those who love Him, for those He called according to His purpose.’ And, you know, it’s a verse that just reminds me, like, ultimately, man, I’m here to love on the guys around me, and I’m here to try and have their back and be a good teammate and be a good representative of the organization and steward the gifts I’ve been given.”
“Because it’s such a fortunate thing to be here, you know, even going back, like, just being placed in Baltimore with this team has been the biggest blessing of my life,” he continued. “And you know, I’m super grateful for it. It’s been incredible. So just reminding myself that, ‘Hey, God’s got my back, even when stuff sucks.'”
Unfortunately, fans have been leaving nasty comments about Loop and his fiancée, Julia Otto, on Loop’s Instagram.
But as Loop deals with the pressure, the uncertainty of his future and even angry fans, he plans to continue to turn to his faith and family.
“Family big time. Faith, obviously, number one,” the kicker said. “My phone already has many notifications from my friends and family who say, ‘Hey, love you, sucks, but we love you, and we got your back.’ And, you know, I lean on that. Lean on my teammates, lean on my coaches, and my process and everything that’s gotten us here to this point, and keep us moving forward.”
Though his football season is over, he has much to look forward to, especially his upcoming marriage to Otto.
“My good and perfect gift from above. 3 months until I get to marry her!” Loop posted back in November.
Loop will continue to lean on his faith and his family, understanding that God causes all things to work together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His plan.
