Brighton Robertson, wife of DUCK DYNASTY’s Reed Robertson, knows firsthand that the Word of God can carry you through unthinkable tragedy.
After losing her niece and nephew in a car accident in 2023, Brighton’s community lifted her up and encouraged her to rely on the Lord.
“I think that when the accident happened [to] my niece and nephew, like being surrounded by community, it was like they weren’t going to let me, like, waver to either side,” she said on Sadie Robertson Huff’s “WHOA That’s Good” podcast last week.

Nine-year-old Bryan Thompson and 7-year-old Harrison Thompson were killed in a car crash on their way to school. Their mother Kasey Thompson and sibling Hayes Thompson survived.
Brighton explained that she had “never really studied the Bible” before the tragedy.
“It forced me into it, because I was like, ‘Man, I’m like searching and searching, and I don’t know how to, like, get that like relationship,’” she confessed. “I was just so at a low and I needed something…I was just, like, at the end of myself where, like, ‘I can’t be a good wife and a mom on my own…I need the Lord to fill my cup.”
She added, “I started really studying the Word of God. And Reed’s dad, Jase, has been a big part of that for me, too. I started listening to [his podcast] ‘Unashamed,’ and then texting him a lot, and he just really got me fired up.”
As Brighton went on this journey, she realized that people miss out on so much when they don’t read God’s word.
“I never understood the hunger and thirst for the word, and after that, it was like, I have to have it,” she said.
She continued, “That’s what so many people miss. Like, there’s no way to have a relationship without being in His word. Like, because how can you know your Creator without that? Once you start it…you just, like, want to get deeper and deeper and deeper into it.”
It seems like others are realizing the truth that Brighton discovered: reading the Bible is vital. The American Bible’s “State of the Bible” report reveals that last year, 10 million more people became Bible users compared to years before.
Psalm 119:105 reads, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Even when times are difficult, God’s word guides us and gives us strength.
