Rob Lowe Hosts Docudrama Honoring 250th Anniversary of Boston Tea Party

By Movieguide® Contributor

Rob Lowe hosts a four-part docudrama to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party.

“My own great-, great-, great-, great-, great-grandfather was one of these patriots,” Lowe told PEOPLE, speaking about the Americans who organized the rebellion. “A Hessian soldier commissioned to fight with the British who was taken prisoner at the battle of Trenton, switched sides and went on to fight for the American cause. Just one of the countless stories that make up this rich tapestry of our nation’s past.”

The series, titled LIBERTY OR DEATH: BOSTON TEA PARTY, follows the events that led to the protest at Griffin’s Warf in Boston Harbor. Due to out-of-control taxation on a variety of goods, the American colonists felt they had no choice but to take drastic measures to escape the heavy hand of the British monarchy.

Viewers of the docudrama will be treated to reenactments of the events that culminated in the Boston Tea Party, accompanied by voiceover narration by Lowe providing insight into the heroic acts.

In the trailer, Lowe explains that the rebellion “broke the rules, defied an empire and set the stage for a revolution.”

“This was the spark that lit the torch of liberty… In one night, they showed the world that free people could rise up against unchecked power,” the trailer continues.

The series premiered on Fox Nation on Nov. 19.

“The Boston Tea Party was a momentous event that transformed the trajectory of American history and remains significant nearly 250 years later,” said Fox Nation president Jason Klarman. “Throughout this series, viewers will feel as if they are transported back in time, and we are thrilled to have someone as iconic as Rob Lowe fronting this project.”

The Boston Tea Party set the stage for the American Revolution, which would begin only five months later as the 13 colonies began to fight for their independence. Through the American Revolution, the Founding Fathers proved that tyranny does not always prevail and freedom can be found for those willing to fight for it – values that remain at America’s core.

Movieguide® previously reported on the Founding Fathers:

In a new essay, actor Chuck Norris shared his research into President George Washington’s strong Christian faith.

Norris wrote about Washington’s accolades as a soldier, leader and president, adding that he was a “constant” attendee at church throughout his life.

The actor also cites a video presentation at Washington’s home, Mount Vernon, that details his faith. An excerpt from the video shares:

Washington believed that political and religious freedom went hand-in-hand, and he encouraged the new republic to embrace religious tolerance: “[For you, doubtless, remember that I have often expressed my sentiment, that] every man, conducting himself as a good citizen, and being accountable to God alone for his religious opinions, ought to be protected in worshiping the Deity according to the dictates of his own conscience.”
