Ryan Reynolds Steps Back for Family: ‘It’s Totally Important For Their Development’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Ryan Reynolds has decided to take a step back from life in the public eye – and for a very good reason! In a recent interview, Reynolds was asked about his “sabbatical” from acting.

His response? “The biggest thing for me, and I know you have kids as well, is that I don’t want to miss this time with my kids.”

Reynolds shares daughters James, 6, Inez, 5, and Betty, 2, with wife Blake Lively. The actor shared that he wants to be there to see them grow, and that this is the “perfect time” for him to take a break and that he wants to “live life like a normal human.”

“I want my kids to have a pretty normal schedule,” the actor said. “For many years when my wife Blake would shoot a film, I would not shoot a film and I would be with the kids and vice versa. So we would sort of trade off. We never really worked at the same time. But always we were away. So the kids were away too.”

He continued, “Now that they’re in school, they have a somewhat normal schedule. I think it’s totally important for their development and I really enjoy being a present dad. I love taking them to school in the morning, I love picking them up.”

Reynolds first announced he would be putting his acting career on hold in an Instagram post in October, after he had wrapped upcoming movie, SPIRITED.

“That’s a wrap for me on Spirited. Not sure I’d have been ready to say yes to a film this challenging even three years ago. Singing, dancing and playing in the sandbox with Will Ferrell made a whole lotta dreams come true. And this is my second film with the great @octaviaspencer…,” Reynolds captioned the post. “Perfect time for a little sabbatical from movie making. I’m gonna miss every second working with this obscenely gifted group of creators and artists. These days, kindness matters as much as talent. I’ve been lucky to work with folks who are flush with both.”
