Sadie and Christian Huff Share What to Look for in a Spouse

By Movieguide® Contributor

Former DUCK DYNASTY star Sadie Robertson Huff and her husband Christian Huff opened up about marriage and what to look for in a spouse during a recent conversation with Movieguide®.

“Christian said to me, ‘Never apologize for what God is doing in your life,'” Sadie said. “I just love that, like it shifted my mind and then the things he said in that conversation were just so good. But he was really just leading me to God and being confident in my relationship with God. So find a man who can lead like that and leads you to Jesus.”

Christian added, “I think someone who is very genuine, someone who’s authentic, someone who does love God more than people.”

“But for a guy listening, we’re growing up in a culture and society where so many things are filtered with social media. With all these different things it’s so easy to filter things and to make something look the way that we want it to look. I just think that can be dangerous. I think we can get in that mentality of ‘I’m just gonna fake it until I make it,’ kind of thing…If you try to be somebody that you’re not, then you’re gonna have to keep up that reputation for forever,” he continued.

“Whatever you want in someone, I think you should be that person,” Christian explained. “Like if you want someone that’s genuine, you have to be genuine. If you want somebody who loves God more than the other person, then you have to be someone that loves God more than people.”

The Huffs explore this topic and more in their recent book “How to Put Love First: Find Meaningful Connection with God, Your People, and Your Community (A 90-Day Challenge).”

“You are meant to be in relationships that bring joy and connection—that help you know soul-deep peace and leave you feeling loved instead of lonely. Instead, surface-level friendships, filtered social media feeds, unresolved conflicts, and unhealthy relationships can often seem to harm our self-worth, spiritual growth, and mental health—and keep us from the very relationships that could bring that true connection,” a summary reads.

“‘How to Put Love First’ reminds you that prioritizing and deepening your love relationship with God is the key to growing healthy relationships in every area of life,” the summary concludes.

The couple just launched a challenge for their fans based on the book.

“Be encouraged daily by Sadie, Christian, and friends!! Beginning January 1, 2024 you will receive a daily text and a short video devotional!” Sadie posted on Instagram.

Movieguide® previously reported on the Huff’s relationship:

Sadie Robertson Huff just made her first appearance on her grandfather Phil Robertson’s “Unashamed” podcast with her husband Christian Huff…

“We had an awesome first date. Everything was going great, but then I was like, I just don’t need to be dating anyone. I’m too busy right now,” Sadie said. “I was about to go on tour. I was about to be in like 17 cities preaching…”

“So I called him, and I was like, ‘Hey you know our date was great…I’m so sorry, but I just really don’t think I’m going to be able to date right now because…I would feel so bad that I couldn’t talk to you, I couldn’t call you, couldn’t text you. I would be on the road,’ and then Christian was like…’Just stop talking…Don’t ever apologize for what God’s doing in your life.’”

“I realized I do apologize a lot because I feel like, Oh, I’m sorry, I’m so busy or I’m sorry, I’m doing this or whatever and… I didn’t want people my age to feel intimidated by what I was doing or jealous of what I was doing so I would constantly like, apologize,” the DUCK DYNASTY star said. “He was like, ‘Don’t apologize for what God’s doing in your life’ and then he said…If it’s a win for you, and if it’s a win for God, and if it’s a win for the kingdom, then it will always be a win for me.”

“Then I was like, forget the plan of breaking up with you, I’m going to marry you,” Sadie finished.
