NCIS’ Sean Murray is handing out superlatives ahead of the franchise’s 1000th episode.
Murray gave co-star Wilmer Valderrama the class clown title, telling PEOPLE, “He’s a steady stream of hilariousness for myself and many others, so we have a lot of fun shooting together, and I see that guy offset all the time. He’s a lot of fun. I’m going to give that one to Wilmer.”
Katrina Law was awarded the “biggest mom or dad” title, with Murray saying, “She’s a mother herself with a young daughter, married” and is “one of the most dedicated mothers I’ve ever seen and ever known.”
“It’s pretty amazing to see,” he said. “We’re working our butts off and for those two or three minutes that we have between takes or setups, she’s on FaceTime calls with her daughter. And to me, that’s something that’s really important and special.”
Murray gave Diane Reasonover the “biggest sweetheart” award, while Brian Dietzen got “most accident-prone,” and Gary Cole was named “life of the party.”
“Gary is the most…He’s just the most perfect performer,” Murray said. “I don’t know, I can’t even really describe it. I just want to give it to Gary. I want to give it to Gary because he deserves that.”
NCIS’ cast and crew have been sharing hints about what fans can expect from the upcoming 1000th episode.
“We’ve got a lot of heavy nods to that [first episode], a lot of characters that we haven’t seen and people that were in the first episode, such as Joe Spano as Fornell,” Murray said in an interview with Parade. “Without giving anything away, the whole team is together trying to stop something from happening with Air Force One. We did a lot of fun things when we filmed where we put in a lot of references visually and dialogue-wise to a lot of things that the longtime fans will appreciate. Little Easter eggs hidden around the episode.”
A press release from CBS shared more details about the episode, titled “A Thousand Yards.”
“NCIS comes under attack by a mysterious enemy from the past. Also, Vance tries to mend fences with his estranged son by explaining why, despite the ongoing dangers of his job, he still chooses to stay at NCIS,” the statement reads. “Daniela Ruah (NCIS: LOS ANGELES) and Vanessa Lachey (NCIS: HAWAI’I) make a special appearance.”
Movieguide® previously reported on NCIS’ upcoming milestone episode:
As the NCIS franchise reaches 1,000 episodes, actor Wilmer Valderrama reflected on how the show got to where it is today and why he believes it remains relevant.
“I mean, it’s crazy to be at the tail end of [1,000 episodes], not the tail end, the last half of that, right,” Valderrama told CBS News. “You gotta pay tribute to the original cast that started this thing, you know, all the way from Mark Harmon, starting in JAG, right.”
“JAG had two episodes at the end of JAG, those last two episodes served as kind of like a semi-pilot for NCIS,” he explained. “Then, you know, they come full circle. Mark Harmon leads this beautiful ship and creates something very different on television, an acronym where people are like, ‘What is NCIS?’ And then now it’s undeniabl[y] one of the most recognizable letters you could see. And, you know, a thousand episodes later and it’s not slowing down. It’s still the number one show.”
