Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham rededicated her life to Christ, recently getting baptized again as an adult.
“I got baptized when I was little, but I was feeling a tug on my heart to do it on my terms as an adult! Such a fun, amazing day. Thank you, Jesus,” she wrote in the caption of a video that showed her baptism.

The guard was baptized at Christ’s Church of the Valley, a nondenominational Evangelical megachurch based in Phoenix, Arizona. Elevation Worship and Chandler Moore’s “God I’m Just Grateful” played in the background of the video.
Last week, Cunningham described her baptism as “one of the better things” she’s done in her life.

“I’ve always been a faithful person, but I just feel like now it’s my own decision. One of the better things I’ve done in my life is getting baptized,” the athlete, who just resigned a one-year $665,000 contract with the Fever, said, according to The Indianapolis Star.
Cunningham went on to say that her faith in Christ “leads” her through her daily life. She relies on her foundation in Jesus, even with “all the noise going on” in the WNBA.
Towards the end of last season, Cunningham suffered a knee injury. During an episode on her “Show Me Something” podcast, Cunningham was ridiculed for a comment she made, which suggested she was frustrated with only receiving a one-year contract extension.
Cunningham responded, “I’m gonna shut this down right now. I’m not mad about the money….I just wanted more years because I love it here. I wanted to get a house so I could bring my dog and donkey to Indy with me. That’s it. That’s the truth. I think we have something very special here in Indiana!!”

“It made me sound snotty and ungrateful, and that is the last thing I ever want,” she emphasized in a conversation with ESPN about the extension. “I am so grateful. I know I’m coming off a pretty big knee injury, and so it was never about the money. It was just about the years, because I wanted to be with them. God forbid, a girl loves her teammates.”
“I’m almost 30 years old,” she continued. “I want to have a home. I want to kind of get established. And I would love to get established in a place like Indiana. We had such a great time. When you find a group of girls who really make you fall in love with basketball again, and you enjoy it and you enjoy them — not only on the court, but off the court — you want to hold on to that. And so that’s what I meant by that.”
“All of them this morning, they’re like, ‘We know exactly what you meant.’ The internet is doing what the internet does, and it’s trying to stir things up,” Cunningham said.
While her career will come with disappointments, it’s exciting to see Cunningham prioritize her faith in God.
