Super Bowl LIX made history Sunday night when a total of 126 million viewers tuned in to see the Philadelphia Eagles dominate the Kansas City Chiefs, making it the most watched game in sports history.

Variety reported the big game saw a 2% improvement over last year’s telecast, which, at the time, boasted the largest TV audience ever recorded by Nielsen.

Nielsen, Fox and the NFL measured this year’s viewership across Fox, Fox Deportes, Tubi, Telemundo and NFL digital properties, Variety said. Last years numbers came from CBS, Paramount+, Nickelodeon, Univision, CBS Sports and NFL digital properties.

Viewership peaked with an average of 135.7 million viewers during the second quarter, CBS reported.

ESPN’s more in-depth breakdowns showed a total of “14.5 million watched on streaming platforms, including 13.6 million on Tubi, where the game was available for free.”

Super Bowl LIX was notable for a few other reasons, too. It marked seven-time Super Bowl champ Tom Brady’s first Super Bowl in the broadcast booth and the first time FOX Sports rolled out “its special takeover” of Tubi, according to a FOX Sports press release.

A half-time performance from Kendrick Lamar, which featured celebrity guests like SZA, actor Samuel L. Jackson, tennis star Serena Williams and Mustard, also drew fans, along with the attendance of big names including President Donald Trump and pop star Taylor Swift.

Super Bowl LIX became the third straight Super Bowl where viewership was over 100 million.
