More than trying to gain on-field success, Tampa Bay wide receiver Emeka Egbuka is on a mission to spread the name of Jesus Christ.

“I don’t enter any seasons of my life with too many expectations when it comes to, like, statistics or anything. Really, I’m just trying to honor and glorify God, be obedient to whatever He’s called me to,” the athlete said in a video shared on X by sports analyst Jon Root.

“So, you know, I feel like He has me in Tampa for a reason, and that purpose is bigger than football, I believe,” Egbuka declared. “So just trying to use my platform to be able to impact people in any way I can and just give glory to Him when successes come my way and when they don’t, still praise Him all the more.”

Though still in his rookie NFL season, Egbuka has already made an impact on the field for the Bucs.

Quarterback Baker Mayfield said he learned to trust Egbuka “Extremely quickly.”

“I just think the way he carries himself,” Mayfield added. “I’ve told you guys, it wasn’t a front. You saw it live today, in person. He’s the real deal. True professional. Doesn’t play like a rookie. Doesn’t act like a rookie. His head is never spinning. He made some unbelievable catches and plays today for us. Obviously, going to continue to lean on him. Hopefully, we can draw some more coverage towards him, and Mike gets the ball again.”

Off the field, Egbuka uses his platform to point his fans to Jesus, often posting Bible verses along with photos of himself on the field.

In one post, the wide receiver shared Ephesians 6:11, which reads, “Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.”

In another post, Egbuka cited 1 Corinthians 10:31: “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”

Egbuka isn’t chasing stats, play time or money; instead the wide receiver wants to glorify the name above every other name: Jesus Christ.
