Tasha Layton believes God has been preparing her for this season of life, which she explores through her new album, Life in Me.

“When you’re a follower of Christ and your life is not your own, He will take your loaves and fishes and multiply them,” said Layton. “And what I have done over the years is just to say yes. I wasn’t afraid to do whatever He asked me to do.”

“I always felt a call to ministry, and I always felt an evangelistic call,” she told The Christian Post. “And sometimes that took me to places that looked different for the normal churchgoer.”

Layton released her second album, Life in Me, in October. The songs demonstrate where God has taken the AMERICAN IDOL alum the last 15 years.

“A lot of the songs draw from my own pain,” the “How Far” singer said. “And so, I think as an artist and a creative person, I often draw from my own pain. But I don’t want to stay there either.”

“When I wrote this record, I wanted people to feel like they could understand devastation in another human’s life and identify with that, but I also wanted them to identify with the freedom and the joy that I feel now.”

“I believe with all my heart that if God can do a crazy, powerful work in my life, He can do it for you too,” is a statement that Layton said previously, but it rings true for her new album.

The album includes 12 tracks:

  1. Singing in the Dark (Intro)
  2. Singing in the Dark
  3. Life in Me
  4. Thank You Isn’t Enough
  5. Worship Through It
  6. Meet Me in the Valley
  7. Hindsight
  8. I’ll Never Know
  9. One You Love
  10. Lay It Down
  11. Never
  12. When the Tears Fall

Many of these songs speak of sorrow and trials, but they also speak of change and hope, which wouldn’t be possible without God.

“Each track really represents a season from my walk with Jesus,” she said. “The album is a beautiful picture of His life in me.”

Layton’s motivation to get up in the morning stems from God’s pull in her life and her enthusiasm and hope for others.

“The first is that I feel an innate sense of calling from God to do what I do, and, thus, the grace to do it,” she told American Essence. “And the second is that I hear stories every night when speaking with people after events and concerts of how my music has inspired them or changed their lives. Hearing that encouragement from them is also a big deal for me.”

Layton also has a holiday EP, This is Christmas, available now.
