Tasha Layton: ‘I’m Standing in the Fulfillment of Prayers’

Christian singer Tasha Layton explained why she chose to pursue worship music over a secular offer that came after she had appeared on AMERICAN IDOL and spent years working as a backup singer for Katy Perry.
“Before I entered music to do my own music, there were a lot of years that I wasn’t sure how God was going to work it out,” Layton told CBN News. “I didn’t understand why I was taking this path, or going in this direction, or how He was going to work it all together for His good.”
While working for Perry, Layton realized that secular music is often crushing because of the pressure that comes from fame. When opportunities came her way to sign with a mainstream record label, she denied them, not wanting to let others be able to tell her who she is and what type of music she has to sing – even if it would lead to fame and success.
“I just didn’t see how a mainstream deal and the music that they wanted me to sing… was going to be helpful for anyone and much less connect people to who I believe is the Creator of the universe,” she told Fox News Digital last August.
“And I just missed singing songs that directly connected people to God,” Layton continued. “I’ve always led worship in church. And, you know, when I’m on my deathbed looking back, I’m not going to care that I built a career. I’m going to care that I helped people.”
Layton now understands that the time she spent on Perry’s tour was also a time preparing her to not covet the fun parts of being famous.
“The cool venues, the cool private plane thing – I’d already done all that,” Layton said. “And there’s a reason Paul says, ‘You can gain the world and lose your soul.’”
“I’m so fulfilled,” she added. “I’m standing in the fulfillment of prayers.”
Though she chose a harder route, Layton has still found success through her faith-filled music. Her songs have connected millions of fans to Christ and earlier this year she joined Toby Mac’s “Hits Deep” tour, traveling the country with her music.

Christian singer Tasha Layton is opening up about how her faith helped her through a dark moment in her life.
“I grew up in the church, but I really started to get excited about God and my faith when I was at a particular church in my teen years,” Layton shared with Woman’s World. “I joined the youth worship team. I went on mission trips. I did all kinds of stuff, but then I was really wounded by a church leader.”
This hurt led her to explore other religions, visiting a Buddhist meditation camp, a synagogue and a mosque, but she didn’t “find what I was looking for.”
“In all those other religions, I didn’t find the peace that passes understanding,” she said. “I didn’t find the power to transform. That power was what I really needed. I needed the power of healing.”
Layton eventually went back to church and “hated it,” but one special service changed her life.
