Worship artist TAYA opened up about how her latest album came from one of the hardest seasons of her life.

“God stripped away everything I could lean on that wasn’t Him,” she told Relevant Magazine of her album, The Reminder. “And what was left was His faithfulness. That’s the banner over this entire album. Not mine — His.”

While working on the project, TAYA juggled a busy tour schedule, her new baby and a shocking skin cancer diagnosis.

“It was painful,” she shared. “There were moments I wanted to walk away. But my friend told me, ‘The oil only comes one way — and it’s through pressing.’”

TAYA continued, “I was writing it for myself. It was the reminder I needed to sing over my own life. When you’re in the valley, you forget what you know. You forget what’s true. That’s what this album became — a way to remember.”

“I hope people are reminded of what God’s already done for them,” she said of her hopes for the album. “A verse. A promise. A moment where they knew He saw them. Everyone’s reminder is going to be different. But we all need one.”

In a statement about The Reminder, TAYA shared, “Something I cannot shake is the revelation of the faithfulness of God as a constant banner over my life. Not a banner of talents, or a churches name or any accolade given — the banner over my life is who God is and what He has done. It is Jesus Christ, Him our crucified and risen King. What a joy it is to shout it from the rooftops, in this caption, via your inbox, through song and this next record; to remind us all of what He has done.”

In an Instagram caption, she wrote, “My ultimate prayer is that ‘The Reminder,’ would cause you to look again, and consecrate. That you would see God’s care for you and cause you to trust that He knows what you need. He has spoken the words that will sustain you no matter where The Way goes, He sees you and Jesus is the One faithfully leading each of us through.”

For TAYA, The Reminder was a way to fully lean on her faith in hard times and is now a way to reach others who might be going through something similar.
