Texas QB Leads Team to Win Over Alabama: ‘God is So Good’

University of Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers led his team in a recent upset victory over Alabama, the third-ranked team in the nation.
ESPN reported that Ewers passed “for 349 yards and three touchdowns to lead No. 11 Texas to a 34-24 victory over third-ranked Alabama on Saturday night in a huge win for a program trying to climb back to its old level of prominence nationally.”
ESPN broadcaster Holly Rowe spoke to Ewers after the game and asked him how his sacrifice and discipline helped lead the team to a win.
“We knew this whole week if we came in here, we were going to ball out. We were going to try to make them quit,” Ewers expressed. “God is so good. I can’t say that enough, how much God has put me through. He’s made me so strong. I’m so proud of my team, our defense, we balled out. I’m fired up for the rest of the way.”
Ewers played his first season of college football at Ohio State University but decided to return to his home state to join his hometown team.
In a letter to The Player’s Tribune last year, Ewers said, “Finding a balance between inside and outside expectations has always been challenging for me. On the outside, from the trolls to the people who love you, inviting so many opinions and perspectives into a choice like this is never ideal. And on the inside, I’m always trying to figure out how to balance having a lot of confidence in myself with also wanting to stay as humble as possible in order to see things clearly.”
“It’s hard to make life-changing decisions when you’re only 17 or 18 years old,” he added. “But this time I really just tried to block out all the noise, and focus on what I wanted for myself. It took a lot of prayer, but I’m confident in the choice I made.”
Ewers is open about his faith on social media. In an Instagram post, he wrote, “2 Corinthians 4:6 says, For God, who said, ‘let light shine out of darkness,’ made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.”
Additionally, SportsSpectrum reported, “Ewers also has two tattoos related to Bible verses. Luke 17:21 is tattooed on his right forearm, and there is a tattoo with a cross and ‘Joshua 1:9’ on his chest. The verse says, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
