THE ARK AND THE DARKNESS Lands in Box Office’s Top 3

By Movieguide® Contributor

THE ARK AND THE DARKNESS: UNEARTHING THE MYSTERIES OF NOAH’S FLOOD earned third place at the box office last week.

“THE ARK AND THE DARKNESS was released nationwide for two days only, March 20 and 21, but it did so well that it’s returning to theaters for an additional day on April 1,” CBN reported.

The movie earned $1,700,000 in its two-day release, per Box Office Mojo.

“The movie points to the veracity of the biblical account of the global catastrophe, highlighting the facts that prove Noah’s Ark is not just a fun Bible story to share with kids,” CBN said.

Part of Movieguide®’s +4 review of the documentary reads:

THE ARK AND THE DARKNESS is a documentary promoting the traditional Global Flood perspective of the story of Noah’s Ark in the Book of Genesis. It also supports a young earth view of the Earth’s Age, positing that the Earth is only 6,000 years old, while also supporting a strong Christian view of salvation through Jesus Christ. To defend the Global Flood theory, 10 scholars discuss flood geology, the formation of the deep sea trenches, the combination of sea and land fossils in locations across the globe, the different kinds of mammals, the development of human society after the Tower of Babel, and the common genetic background of human beings.

THE ARK AND THE DARKNESS perhaps gives the best defense of the traditional Global Flood view of Noah’s Ark than any other movie. Its defense of a 6,000-year-old earth is less comprehensive and thus less convincing. THE ARK AND THE DARKNESS also presents a Dispensational view of the Second Coming, which is even more controversial. However, the movie’s presentation of the Gospel is pretty much a mainstream, and even inspiring, one.

Dan Biddle, an apologetics expert and executive producer of the documentary, told the Christian Post, “The evidence for the flood is really, really overwhelming.”

“There are a lot of misconceptions about the flooding. And Hollywood not only doesn’t represent the true biblical account, they add a lot of mythologies and a lot of themes that are just clearly not biblical…The two biggest misconceptions would be mythologizing the flood, saying it’s an allegory, it didn’t really happen,” he said.

“The other one that’s actually within Christian circles is, ‘It was just a local flood, God’s judgment was only pertaining to the people living in Mesopotamia Valley.’ …Our movie shows it wasn’t an allegory; it happened in real-time just thousands of years ago, and it was a worldwide event,” he said.

On CBN’s THE GLOBAL LANE, Biddle said that fossilized dinosaur bones provide the best evidence for the flood and that its global scale can be proven as fossilized sea life has been found on mountains in every continent.

“How could you take a 13-state zone region and bury land creatures and marine creatures together over that much of an expanse?” Biddle asked. “The answer has to be a worldwide flood.
