This Character Will Change Everything in NCIS Season 22

NCIS character Tim McGee’s possible new job could drastically change the show’s storyline. Showrunner Steven D. Binder explains how.

“Binder confirms that McGee will be ‘angling for a deputy director position’ in NCIS season 22,” Screen Rant reported. “He doesn’t say why he decides that he wants to move up the ranks after over two decades in the service, but the showrunner reveals that in doing so, Murray’s character will discover something amiss in the agency that will eventually include MCRT.”

“Being the investigative hound that Tim is, he’s going to sniff something on the way to this journey. He’s going to see that something is not right in the halls of government around him,” Binder told TV Line.

Cinema Blend speculates that McGee will discover “some kind of corruption within the law enforcement agency.”

“Assuming this is the case, while we can confidently say that Director Leon Vance isn’t involved with this, that’s not to say any other high-ranking NCIS officials aren’t up to no good, as we’ve seen at various times throughout this TV show’s run. Or, to go a step further, perhaps McGee will learn about some kind of conspiracy unfolding not just within NCIS, but other agencies and areas of the United States government,” the outlet hypothesized.

While “MCRT’s most veteran member didn’t get much focus in NCIS Season 21,” instead playing “a vital role in other storylines, including the death of Ducky and even Nick Torres’ case in the premiere,” the possibility of McGee’s new role means big changes in the next season.

Season 22 also marks a major milestone for actor Sean Murray who plays McGee as he breaks the record for the NCIS character with the most screen time.

“NCIS Season 22, which premieres on the 2024 TV schedule in just a few weeks, will actually see Murray becoming the actor with the most appearances in the procedural franchise,” CinemaBlend reported.

He credits the fun he has on set to the show’s longevity.

“And I know people love to say this but I actually mean it: we have a blast on set. We really do. We work hard, but we have a lot of fun, and a lot of us spend time with each other outside of the set,” he said earlier this year. “We’re all very close friends, and I think that that shows.”

Movieguide® previously reported on an injury Murray sustained on set:

NCIS star Sean Murray recently revealed the scene that left him permanently injured.

“Running through that car wash, which I did many times and was a real car wash, I remember taking a sharp right,” the actor shared, referring to a scene from a Season 2 episode that saw him pursuing a suspect through a car wash.

Murray continued, “My dress shoes come out right from under me ‘cause I’m sprinting. I come down on my right hand. And, you know, like a lot of us actor types, we jump up, we just keep doing our thing. We don’t even really notice what we do until afterward. To this day, I have very limited mobility in my right thumb now. It’s a good thing to say I’m a lefty.”
