Sean Murray Says This NCIS Scene Left Him With a Permanent Injury
By Movieguide® Contributor
NCIS star Sean Murray recently revealed the scene that left him permanently injured.
“Running through that car wash, which I did many times and was a real car wash, I remember taking a sharp right,” the actor shared, referring to a scene from a Season 2 episode that saw him pursuing a suspect through a car wash.
Murray continued, “My dress shoes come out right from under me ‘cause I’m sprinting. I come down on my right hand. And, you know, like a lot of us actor types, we jump up, we just keep doing our thing. We don’t even really notice what we do until afterward. To this day, I have very limited mobility in my right thumb now. It’s a good thing to say I’m a lefty.”
Murray has been part of the NCIS universe since 2003. The show recently became a family affair when daughter Cay, 17, joined the show for an episode.
“I was so proud of how she handled it,” he told Parade. “It was a different experience for her but I think she handled it really well. As I’m sure you can see in any of those promo pictures they’ve snapped of us, I was a very proud father. I’m grinning from ear to ear in all those photos. I’m really proud of Cay and what she did.”
The actor, along with the dozens of other members of the NCIS universe, recently marked the franchise’s 1,000th episode.
“It’s funny, because like people will say, ‘Oh, you must be tired of playing the same character for 20-plus years,’” Murray told Variety. “But my character, luckily for me, has been able to evolve as the show has grown. So none of it has ever felt boring to me.”
He continued, “We [are] able to have the same characters, but able to tell different stories, because we didn’t get locked into a certain time frame where they can’t get older. It’s like, we got older, we had kids, we had relationships, we had breakups, we had deaths — so I feel like I’ve been doing different things for 20 years. I don’t feel like I’ve been doing the same thing, which is why the time has flown by.”
Movieguide® previously reported on Murray’s time on NCIS:
Sean Murray’s character as Timothy McGee on NCIS was never intended to be a permanent role, but now his character is the one that’s been there the longest.
Murray’s “journey to becoming a series regular was ‘an interesting one,’” TV Insider reported.
Murray’s stepdad, Donald Bellisario, created NCIS, which is now in its 21st season. He helped Murray get the role.
“There was a one-time guest star appearance for a rookie agent,” he explained. “Don asked me if I wanted to do this.”
“It was an interesting character, total rookie, total kind of stumbling over himself, trying to learn what he’s doing sort of thing,” Murray told TV Insider. “It goes well, I get along with everyone. We finished the end of that episode, and my character is neither a bad guy nor arrested nor killed, which is a good sign.”
After another episode ran three minutes short, Murray was hastily thrown back into the show. He got to the “turning point” for his character in Season 1: Episode 19. That episode showed McGee’s significant character development. From there on out, he became a regular on the show and is now the longest one standing.
