Country star Thomas Rhett and his wife Lauren Akins announced their fifth baby is on the way through a sweet adaptation of the singer’s song “Life Changes.”
“While I was wrapping my head around being a dad / a big wrench got thrown in the plans we thought we had / Now Lauren’s showing. Got one on the way / That’s five under 10. Hey, what can I say?/ Yeah, life changes. You wake up ain’t nothing the same. Yeah, life changes,” Rhett sang during the announcement in which the parents seemed very happy but also surprised.
“Here we go again!” he added in the caption. “We’ve got some really excited big sisters in our house. God is so good.”

Rhett and his wife adopted their oldest daughter, Willa, in 2017 after struggling with infertility. However, a few months into the adoption process, they found out they were pregnant with daughter Ada James. They have since welcomed two more daughters, Lennon Love and Lillie Carolina, with their fifth now on the way.
The singer has loved every second of being a dad, even as he faces the difficulties of balancing a successful music career with parenting.
“I just love getting to spend one-on-one time with each of them, which is something that I didn’t think was really important before,” he said. “But I think the longer I’ve gone as a dad, it’s like each child really does need that one-on-one time – in the same way Lauren and I just need time with each other.”
One of the ways he balances his career with his family is by inviting his daughters into his creation process. While working on his 2022 album Where We Started, he asked them to help him decide which songs he would include on the album and which ones would get cut.
“I started playing the record and I kept taking notes of the ones they wanted to listen to over and over again. There were five or six on there that now when we get in the car, my 2-year-old will be like, ‘Play daddy song, daddy song,’” Rhett explained. “And if it’s not one of those six, even if it’s an older song of mine or a newer one, those are the only six that she cares about. So those made it on the record for sure.”
Rhett has also brought his family with him on tour so as not to miss as many moments with his children as he would otherwise have to.
“It’s not just bring your kid to work day, it’s bring your four kids to work day,” he said. “But the older two, I think, are going to come with me quite a bit this year, Ada James and Willa Gray, especially in the summer. You know, they’re old enough that they’ll do me the justice of sleeping until 9:00 in the morning and stay up with me at night and go watch the show.”
Praise the Lord for the expansion of his family and the way that He is blessing Rhett and Akins with incredible kids.
