Tom Cruise is celebrating a record-breaking run at the box office for his latest movie, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE — THE FINAL RECKONING.

“This weekend was one for the history books!” Cruise wrote in a message posted to Instagram. “Congratulations and thank you to every filmmaker, every artist, every crew member and every single person who works at the studios. To every theater and every employee who helps bring these stories to audiences, thank you.”

The actor continued, “To everyone that works at Paramount Pictures and Skydance, thank you for your many years of partnership and unwavering support. And most of all, THANK YOU to audiences everywhere for whom we all serve and for whom we all LOVE to entertain. Sincerely, Tom.”

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE — THE FINAL RECKONING has earned a series-best $63 million over Memorial Day weekend, with an estimated $77 million through the four-day holiday, per Variety.

“A record opening on the eighth iteration is remarkable,” Paramount’s distribution chief Chris Aronson said in a statement about THE FINAL RECKONING’s box office take. “It speaks to the longevity of the franchise. The spectacle of what Tom and McQ [director Christopher McQuarrie] put on screen is one-of-a-kind in today’s marketplace.”

THE FINAL RECKONING is also scoring positive reviews. Movieguide® called the movie “an exhilarating, patriotic, stirring, and profound thriller” and praised it for its “many Christian allusions.”

Many have hypothesized that THE FINAL RECKONING is the last in the MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE franchise, but Cruise has played coy when asked directly about the end of the series.

“I’d rather just people see it and enjoy and we’ve had an amazing time doing it and it’s been a lot of fun and I just want you all to enjoy it,” he told Variety. “Enjoy this and know everything is the culmination has come to this moment right now.”

The actor also discussed his love of sometimes-dangerous stunt work, saying, “I’ve always felt, you know, I don’t mind kind of encountering the unknown, and I like the feeling. It’s just an emotion for me. It’s something that is not paralyzing. It doesn’t bother me.”

“I enjoy any endeavor in life,” Cruise continued. “People can be afraid to do something, and I’m like, ‘OK, I want to.’ I don’t mind kind of confronting it and going in…People can be quite frightened about the unknown, and I never have been.”

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE — THE FINAL RECKONING might be the last installment in the popular franchise, but its overwhelming box office success shows that audiences are still hungry for more!
