Tom Holland Says SPIDER-MAN 4 Would Have To ‘Do Justice’ To Character

By Movieguide® Contributor

Tom Holland recently revealed that conversations about a fourth SPIDER-MAN movie are underway.

“All I can say is that we have been actively engaging in conversations about what it could potentially look like for a fourth rendition of my character,” Holland said at a Critics Choice Association press conference, according to Variety. “Whether or not we can find a way to do justice to the character is another thing.”

The actor, who has played Spider-Man since 2016’s CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, said that he feels “protective” over the character.

“I feel very, very lucky that we were able to work on a franchise that got better with each movie, that got more successful with each movie, which I think is really rare, and I want to protect his legacy,” he explained. “So, I won’t make another one for the sake of making another one. It will have to be worth the while of the character.”

“If we can figure that out, I would be a fool not to put the suit back on again because I owe everything to Spider-Man,” he added. “I love the character and the people I get to work with. So, I would love to tell another story, but I’ll only tell it if we can find the right one.”

Marvel head Kevin Feige also dropped some hints about another SPIDER-MAN movie, telling Entertainment Weekly, “All I will say is that we have the story. We have big ideas for that, and our writers are just putting pen to paper now.”

Producer Amy Pascal also teased a fourth movie in 2021 in an interview with Fandango.

“This is not the last movie that we are going to make with Marvel – [this is not] the last Spider-Man movie,” she said. “We are getting ready to make the next Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland and Marvel. We’re thinking of this as three films, and now we’re going to go onto the next three. This is not the last of our MCU movies.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Holland’s recent break from acting:

Sorry Spider-Man fans, Tom Holland will be taking a break from acting.  The actor shared that after his time filming the new series “The Crowded Room” he needs to focus on making his mental health a priority.

“The Crowded Room” is based off a 1981 novel called “The Minds of Billy Milligan.”  This story has to do with a “shocking crime” that was committed, and an investigators journey to solve the mystery.  Due to the weightiness of the topic, Tom Holland stated that filming was a “tough time” and he had to explore “certain emotions that I have definitely never experienced before” which he shared in an interview with Extra.

Holland stated “There did come a time where I was like, I need to have a break.  I disappeared, I went to Mexico for a week and had some time on a beach and laid low, and I’m now taking a year off and that is a result of how difficult this show was.”
