Trust God for Your Family: God Arranges a Marriage

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

– Jeremiah 29:11

The meeting of my son Peirce and his wife Christina was a miracle. Lili and I pray fervently for our children’s future spouses. With Peirce, the prayers were becoming so intense that I spent some time face down in my prayer closet seeking God.

Peirce was in Papua New Guinea as a part of a Bible Translation team. The tribe he was assigned to to develop a written language for was so remote on the edge of the water that supplies for him had to be dropped from airplanes and helicopters every two months. He surprised us by coming home to help his mother who had been on chemotherapy for 12 years at that time. At the same, time Doug Gresham told his goddaughter and Jack Sonnemann told the same wonderful young woman his daughter, Christina, to stop in Los Angeles to meet me with her mother Margaret on the way to a meeting in the South of the USA and then on to play a concert in Paris at the Australian Embassy. Thus, miraculously, both Christina and Peirce ended up at our home at the same time for dinner.

Christina is delightful. She is not only talented, but also gracious, kind, beautiful, thoughtful, loving, brilliant, and well read.

When they set opposite each other at our New Years Dinner table, and they started discussing rare literature, history and music with enthusiasm, I knew that God had brought them together.

One day, months later, I took Christina to breakfast in Camarillo. I mentioned to her that I spoke at the British Parliament and Lord Orr Ewing introduced me by talk about some arcane history. Christina knew more about the history than Lord Ewing did, God rest his soul. She is incredible.

Peirce is a miracle, too…

After several failed attempts to have children, we conceived of Peirce after much prayer on the very day that Lili accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior. When Peirce was just a toddler, my friend Shorty Yeaworth who discovered and directed Steve McQueen in THE BLOB, said that Peirce was a space child, because he was so brilliant (and cute). His first word in his crib was “Beautiful” as he looked out the window on God’s creation. He has always recognized great beauty – such as Christina. At a young age, Peirce starred as one of seven brothers in an ABC movie of the week, “The Son’s Promise.” Soon thereafter he got the lead in a play. He had pages and pages to memorize. He did so in one day. Peirce studies and excels, but he is also loving. He came back early from the mission field to take care of his mother. He always puts other people first. He even loves his father when it is difficult to do so.

Christina and Peirce are a match made in heaven. They love God; they love each other; and, they love each of us. I thank God in the name of Jesus Christ for them. Now, as I write this, they have ten children and run a ministry in Tasmania, Australia, for travelers from around the world on working holidays.

The miracles continued with God arranging spectacular marriages for Robby with Taylor, then Evy with Jeremy and finally for Jim with Jasmine. So, now, I have 18 grandchildren, so does Lili who graduated to the banquet in heaven with Jesus Christ.

Trust God for all your family.
