Want to Hear God’s Voice? Actress Explains How

Priscilla Shirer knows how to hear the voice of God, and you can hear it, too, by reading the Bible.
“That’s why we read God’s word because we get to know his personality, we get to know the character of God, we get to see the kinds of things He says and doesn’t say,” the actress told TBN. “So, it occurs to us when our ego is speaking, or when fear is trying to a word in, because fear always has something to say, and pride, and insecurities also speaking, the enemy is speaking. You’ll be able to detect, ‘Well, God didn’t say that because that’s totally out of alignment with His character or out of alignment with His personality as it’s displayed in scripture.’ So, the more you know God, the more clearly you can hear Him.”
She said previously, “The reason why we go to the scriptures, the reason why we have quiet time, the reason why we fellowship with other believers who are going to help us remain encouraged in our faith is because we’re just trying to get to know God.”

Shirer explained how so often we try to find direction, but we look in all the wrong places.
“We’re listening to everybody and everything else, hoping to find the voice of God elsewhere when we are really turning our noses up at and ignoring the main means of communication that we have access to, straight from the hand of God Himself, and that’s the Bible,” she said. “If you want to hear from God and you don’t ever read the Bible, then you don’t really want to hear from God.”
Since Jesus came, we have had His Holy Spirit and now have full access to a relationship with God. Ephesians 2:18 confirms this when Paul says, “For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.”
Shirer continued, “The Psalmist prays and said, ‘Lord, please do not take your spirit from me.’ They wanted in the Old Testament what we have access to now. The reason they needed all of that — and not that God can’t still do that because He can if He chooses to — but the reason they needed those things is because they did not have the gift that we have, and that is the Holy Spirit.”
If you need direction, guidance or to be reminded of God’s love for you, simply open your Bible. His Holy Spirit will lead us to all truth through His word.
