What an ‘Unexpected’ Snow Day Reminded HGTV Star About God

HGTV’s Jenny Marrs is “grateful” for making memories during rare snow days.

“Whenever snow starts to fall from the sky, I am the first one to run to the window to witness the miracle,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “There is something sacred and holy about standing beneath the majestic night sky, head turned up to the heavens, gaze fixed on the snowflakes as they fall silently to the ground. The air is crisp and it feels like things are being made new. Serving as a reminder from the Keeper of the storehouse of snow that He can cover all of our dirty, grimy, messiness with pure, white snow.”

Marrs explained that where her family lives, “snow is special and rare,” and whenever it comes, “it brings our world to a halt.”

“Schools close. Offices close. Store shelves are emptied. We hunker down,” she wrote. “We pull the sleds down from storage. We grab the camera. We make hot chocolate and chili and invite friends over for sledding and dinner by the fire. And, most importantly, we slow down. We make memories. We laugh. We pop popcorn and watch movies. We bring out extra blankets and pillows. It all feels indulgent and like a sweet, unexpected gift.”

Jenny continued, “Today, as the sunshine melts the snow outside my window, and the slush and mud will undoubtedly streak my floors, I am grateful for the memories made this week. I’m thankful for the way our busy lives were paused, even if for the briefest of moments, to fill all of our memory banks to the brim with snow-soaked delight (my word for the year – delight – resonated so deeply this week).”

The peaceful snow days were a welcome break from the usual commotion of the Marrs family’s hectic schedule.

During a recent speaking engagement, Jenny said the couple’s renovation work and shooting schedule for FIXER TO FABULOUS is “pretty crazy” and “mass chaos.”

Dave added, “When you’re filming it’s a long day because you’re having to smile and be present the entire time.”

In an interview with TV Insider, Jenny shared that the couple has mastered balancing work commitments with family life.

“Personally, we have a lot going on,” she said. “Everyone is busy. Everyone is involved in sports. We’re constantly going here, there and everywhere to keep up with our kids’ schedules. From a balance perspective and for us, there was a lot going on behind the scenes you won’t really see. It has been a crazy year.”

Jenny continued, “One choice we did make this year was to not do any other shows [besides FIXER TO FABULOUS]. In the past we’ve done HOME TOWN TAKEOVER or ROCK THE BLOCK, or our Italy spinoff. This year we scaled back because of the kids’ schedules and the fact they are getting older. We wanted to create more space in our calendars for them.”
