Ron Howard is so proud of his daughter Bryce Dallas Howard, who has followed in her father’s footsteps and is also a director.
In an interview with PEOPLE, the 71-year-old filmmaker praised his daughter for her directing abilities.
“She works differently. Our sensibilities are similar in a lot of ways,” Howard said.
Howard explained that although he is “a collaborator and team leader,” his daughter has “taken that to a whole other level.”
“She’s so good at leading a group of people to find what’s best for the story,” he explained. “She has her own taste, her own sensibilities, and I just love the way she’s approached what she’s done. She’s strong, she has opinions. She’s articulate. She takes the positions. She’s not afraid to challenge even the studio’s thinking.”
Bryce has helped direct series including THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT, THE MANDALORIAN, SKELETON CREW and Disney+ PETS documentary.
Bryce seems to be thriving in her career. Recently she took to Instagram to share her gratitude for the recent PETS documentary.
“Playing with rescues, hearing how much people love their fur babies, and finally sharing the #PetsDocumentary with you all has been a JOY! Especially whilst clad in fashion featuring cats, birds, horses, and dogs 🐈🦚🐎🐕” she said.
“Thank you to everyone who has already been so supportive of the release of PETS, it means the world to me!”
Ron shares four children with his wife Cheryl: Bryce Dallas, 44, twins Jocelyn Carlyle and Paige Carlyle, 40, and Reed Cross, 38.
Bryce previously spoke of being raised by the famous director: “It is an amazing privilege to be a child of someone who works in an industry that you are interested in and eventually work in. It’s a privilege for that person to have success in their own right.”
She mentioned that her father has been nothing but supportive of her from the beginning.
“There was no greater privilege than the fact that my dad was supportive of me, empowered me and showed me respect, real respect from day one.”
Part of that respect comes from the fact that her dad protected his children from the film industry when they were young.
“It’s possible for child performers to really find a lot that is positive within it, but it’s fraught with landmines,” Ron previously told PEOPLE.
Because of his experience as a child actor, Ron knew people would try to compare his kids to him.
“On top of everything else, because the characters that I played as a child were so well-known as to almost be iconic…I also thought, ‘Hey, if one of our kids tries to act as a child, boy or girl, they’re going to be unfairly compared.’”
Today, the father and daughter continue to direct projects they love while supporting each other in the process.
