Everything You Need to Know About Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade began almost a century ago, and the event is still going strong. Now in its 98th year, the parade boasts exciting new features this year for you and your family to enjoy.
According to TODAY, this year’s parade will “will include 17 featured character balloons, 22 floats, 15 heritage and novelty balloons, more than 700 clowns, 11 marching bands, 10 performance groups and musical artists.”
The event will be hosted by TODAY’s Al Roker, Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb. In addition to this, a special COUNTDOWN TO MACY’S THANKSGIVING DAY PARADE will air the night before. This is the special’s third year and will be hosted by Wendi McLendon-Covey. Covey will film live at the start of the parade on 77th Street and Central Park West.
TODAY also reported that the show will include “a mix of live guests and pre-taped segments, the special will show the work that goes into organizing the event, including the making of floats and costumes. Additionally, members of the Rockettes will give viewers a peek at the rehearsal process for their annual performance in the parade.”
Special performances and appearances include Jimmy Fallon & The Roots, Dan + Shay, T-Pain, The Temptations, Idina Menzel, Charli D’Amelio and members of the WNBA team, New York Liberty.

Actress Alison Brie will cut the ribbon at this year’s event.
“I feel like the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is like definition monoculture,” she said. “I can just picture the huge Snoopy balloon. It’s etched into my brain, [for] as long as I can remember. So, I’m so excited to be doing that.”
The 2024 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will air this Thursday, Nov. 28, on NBC and Peacock from 8:30 a.m.-12 p.m., with a special encore at 2 p.m. on NBC.
