Why This Country Star Makes Faith Her ‘Foundation’

Faith is the key player in Carrie Underwood’s life, and the eight-time Grammy winner wouldn’t have it any other way.

“It’s the foundation on which everything else is built,” Underwood said about faith’s role in her life. “That’s a way to keep oneself grounded no matter what it is you’re doing. To have a connection to, you know, to God, to a higher power…you just get so much more fulfillment and satisfaction and contentment in your life when you have that, and that being the center of your family and what your decisions are based on.”

“I feel like it just gives you such a bigger sense of peace, and I feel like even in our world, you know, you just see so many people just searching for that, and they look in all the wrong places, and you just want to be like, you know, look up this Bible, look at this and look up, and I feel like the world would be a lot less chaotic.”

Just like God lays the foundation for her, the singer also tries to set up a good foundation for her own children, raising them in the faith and reassuring them that she and her husband, Mike Fisher, will always be their parents and provide for them.

She also puts Christ at the center of her relationship with Fisher.

Beliefnet reported she and Fisher “pray and read uplifting pages out of books together. Further, she has said that the pair reads the Bible to one another over the phone. The two spoke about how they share devotionals together, and ask questions like ‘How did you apply this to your life today’ or ‘What do you think this can mean for us’ to stimulate conversation and discussion about the Lord in their marriage.”

Movieguide® recently reported on Underwood’s recent Gospel album, My Savior:

I’m lucky enough that I feel like I’ve been making spiritual music along the way in my career,” Underwood told AP. “I love the sassy stuff and I love to get an attitude and get dressed up and do all that stuff. But it’s so nice to be able to sing songs like this.”

“My Savior” is Underwood’s second album released during the pandemic. Underwood also released an 11-song Christmas album, titled “My Gift.”

“It’s such a great time to just really slow down and be super intentional about what I’m doing,” Underwood said. “It’s not about the bigger, better thing. It’s about the smaller thing, the thing that’s inside of me.”

“Gospel music shaped me as an artist because those were the first things I sang and it was just a great foundation,” Underwood said.
