Carrie Underwood Release’s First Gospel Album: ‘My Heart is So Full’

The award-winning country singer Carrie Underwood released her first gospel music in her new album, “My Savior.”
Underwood, who grew up in Oklahoma, said that she chose songs to record that she sang as a child growing up in church.
Although “My Savior” is Underwood’s first explicitly Christian album, the 7-time Grammy winner said that faith is always at the heart of what she does.
“I’m lucky enough that I feel like I’ve been making spiritual music along the way in my career,” Underwood told AP. “I love the sassy stuff and I love to get an attitude and get dressed up and do all that stuff. But it’s so nice to be able to sing songs like this.”
“My Savior” is Underwood’s second album released during the pandemic. Underwood also released an 11-song Christmas album, titled “My Gift.”
“It’s such a great time to just really slow down and be super intentional about what I’m doing,” Underwood said. “It’s not about the bigger, better thing. It’s about the smaller thing, the thing that’s inside of me.”

Underwood’s newest record includes classic hymns like “How Great Thou Art” and “Amazing Grace.” Underwood also reimagined hymns to give them a fresh sound.
For “Nothing But the Blood of Jesus,” Bear Rinehart from NEEDTOBREATHE joins Underwood to bring a rock-inspired sound to the hymn. Gospel icon CeCe Winans also teamed with Underwood on “Great Is Thy Faithfulness.”
Underwood is open about her Christian faith. In 2017, the Underwood sang the hymn “Softly and Tenderly” at the Country Music Association Awards show following the mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest festival.
“In that moment that I sang that song, I feel like it provided such a peace in the room and it allowed everybody to be emotional and to be stirred inside themselves,” Underwood said at the time.
