Savannah Bananas’ star player Kyle Jackson recently opened up about why he draws a cross and a heart under his eyes before every game.
“My faith is everything for me,” Jackson declared. “This is like a legit second chance opportunity to be able to be out here and play again.”
“I had a back surgery, and I thought it was all downhill from there, and to be able to represent what I stand for with even something as little as eye black is so cool,” he said. “So, the cross and the heart actually go together. I got that from a church near Kent State, and it was just a great, powerful message for me to be able to put on my face.”
Jackson isn’t the only Bananas player who speaks about his faith in Jesus.
Robert Anthony Cruz, also known as Coach Rac, often shares about his faith on social media. In one post, he opened up about the first-ever player-led worship night.
“First ever player-led worship night outside Grayson Stadium, home of the Savannah Bananas ❤️ May Christ be magnified,” he wrote alongside photos and videos from the event.
Another video went viral recently. In it, a group of the Bananas danced around their locker room to worship music.
“Last year, a couple of us players committed to meeting every single week to have a Bible study,” Coach Rac said of the moment. “Here’s a picture of us before playing in our first-ever MLB Stadium at Minute Maid Park. The amount of players in this group has fluctuated, but as of late, there’s been sometimes over 40 players joining, which would make up over 40% of the organization.”

“There’s nothing that crazy happening here,” he continued. “We are just broken people who find great joy and peace and rest knowing that our lives are not about us. The world doesn’t revolve around us. Speaking for myself here, the more the spotlight is put on me, the more I realize the spotlight is meant to be put on the giver of all things.
“We have all had some amazing moments on the field and fulfilled so many of our childhood dreams,” he added. “And yet we have all found that those moments only satisfy our soul temporarily. Humbling ourselves and worshiping God with our friends is something that never gets old.”
While the Bananas are known for their crazy on-field antics, it’s incredible to see them use their massive platform to point their fans to Christ.
