Former FSU QB ‘Trusts in the Lord’s Plan’ as He Medically Retires from Football

Former FSU quarterback Jordan Travis has announced his medical retirement from football after he suffered a gruesome leg injury in his final college game in 2023.

Drafted by the New York Jets in 2024, Travis was dedicated to the rehabilitation process on his leg, however, he has not gotten the results he wanted.

He shared a photo on his Instagram page of a handwritten letter he wrote that said, “As I reflect on my journey, I am overwhelmed with gratitude. From having the opportunity to live out my dream at Florida State University to hearing my name called in the NFL Draft.”

“I am incredibly grateful for everyone who has poured into me throughout my life and career,” Travis continued. “To my family and friends — your unwavering support has meant everything to me. To the coaches who believed in me and gave me a chance to play the game I love, thank you. To my teammates, thank you for pushing me, supporting me, and becoming family. I am forever grateful for the locker room memories and brotherhood we built.”

“To the entire New York Jets organization, thank you for believing in me and providing me with the opportunity to live out the ultimate dream,” the quarterback added.

Travis then discussed his injury and the faith he has in God to lead him to the next step in life.

“On November 18, 2023, my life and career took an unexpected turn. I gave everything I had to the rehab process, but despite all my efforts, my leg never responded the way we hoped. After much prayer and consultation with the doctors, medical experts, and my agent, I’ve been medically advised to retire from the game I love so deeply.

“It is crazy how fast life can change. This is not the ending I had ever imagined, but I do trust in the Lord’s plan above all else,” he concluded.

Travis ended his letter with the Bible verse, Proverbs 19:21: “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”

Travis was drafted in 2024 by the New York Jets in the fifth round. He took to his Instagram to describe what it felt like for his dreams to come true.

“What a weekend. Dreams do come true, and I am so grateful. All glory to God. This has been such a journey, and has not been easy but in the end it was all worth it. Thank you to everyone that has been a part of this process and helped me get to where I am today. Jets nation, y’all are going to get everything out of me,” he wrote.

Though he never thought he would medically retire from football a year after he was drafted, Travis has decided to trust in God’s plan for his life and knows his decision is what is best for his health.
