Why This Grammy Winner Puts God’s Purpose Over Passion

By Movieguide® Contributor

CeCe Winans is reminding us to focus on God’s purpose for us rather than our own desires.

“When you focus on His purpose and delight yourself in Him, then your desires will line up with Him. And when your desires don’t line up with Him, you know it’s not Him,” the Grammy winner said during an appearance on TBN’s BETTER TOGETHER. “It’s following Him that you’re guaranteed to end up where you’re supposed to be.”

Winans emphasized that “we have to be led by our purpose and not our passion.”

“Your purpose is the thing that grounds you,” she explained. “It’s the thing that guides you in your teens and your 20s and your 30s and your 40s and your 50s and your 60s. It’s like, ‘I’ve got to place Him, you know, period. Not anything else.’”

Winans reminded viewers, “You have to make sure the thing that’s motivating you, it’s your purpose, and you’ll make it your future.”

Winans is one of the most celebrated gospel singers today. She recently celebrated her 10th No. 1 gospel album. Movieguide® previously reported:

“I am humbled by it. I’m excited. I feel like we have created something that people are going to embrace. And it is more than entertainment. It is something that will minister to the hearts of the people,” Winans told CBN. “When you listen to this record, to me the highlight is when the audience is singing. I just felt like this must be the closest thing to heaven, these voices.”

Winans first live recording album,”Believe For It,” came during the pandemic and was birthed out of prayers of desperation.

“When we recorded ‘Believe for It.’ We prayed. We always prayed. But during the pandemic, it was such a desperation of needing God’s anointing to rest on that project, for His Spirit to rest on that project, so that when people heard it… A lot of people were in isolation. A lot of people couldn’t go to church. People were fighting for their lives, literally. Losing loved ones, and so, that was just our cry to God,” she shared.

Winans also just announced a Christmas tour that will kick off this December with AMERICAN IDOL star Roman Collins.

“Christmas is a wonderful time of the year and I’m looking forward to celebrating with everyone and sharing the stage with my special guest, Roman Collins,” she said of the tour. “He is the real deal. He’s sincere about the Lord and singing gospel music.”

Collins also shared his excitement for the tour, commenting on an Instagram post from Winans: “I can’t say it enough, this will be a tour to remember, thank you so much for trusting the God in me! It’s going to be an amazing run.”
