Why Football ‘Isn’t the Main Thing’ for Rams WR Cooper Kupp and Family

By Movieguide® Contributor

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp and his wife, Anna Marie, are diving into parenting and NFL life in their new podcast “Daily Grind.”

“This is an opportunity for us to sit down and really have some meaningful conversations,” Kupp and his wife said in the first episode.

They also open up about the trials their family went through during the Rams’ 2018 Super Bowl run

“We had a really good team. I go through a series of [injuries]. Season’s over,” Cooper said. “That can be a very discouraging place to be. In a place where your team’s moving forward but you’re not able to participate in it. The understanding that this is part of a journey [and] this doesn’t stop here. I am discouraged because I’m hurt, but I am encouraged because I get to go after this thing [and] I get to rebuild myself.”

Not only was Cooper hurt, but Anna Marie was tending to their newborn baby while also trying to take care of her injured husband.

“You were in pain. There were so many external emotions that you’re working through,” Anna Marie began. “And then just to watch football on Sunday as if nothing had happened and our world is completely turned upside down.”

Cooper gave God the glory after signing a contract extension with the Rams in 2022. Movieguide® reported:

Coming off their Super Bowl victory last season, Los Angeles Rams star Cooper Kupp signed a contract extension.

The 28-year-old receiver put up career numbers last year while leading the Rams to their first Super Bowl championship since 2000.

“God is good. On the mountains and in the valleys, He has been with us every step of the way,” Kupp wrote on Twitter in an announcement about his return to LA. “While we have been afforded the privilege to play such an amazing game, it is with humility we know each moment here is intentional, albeit temporary.

“We pray each day to be a light in this world, filled and guided by His spirit, and to make the most of every day according to His will. For His Glory!” he added.

“This is important, but this isn’t the main thing,” Anna Marie said regarding football. “And the main thing is the main thing. And being able to then release some of that pressure of, like, football is a huge part of our life, and I love that it is, and it’s going to come and go. I want to love it because I get to experience it with you…this is what is fulfillment to me.”

In addition to their podcast, the Kupps also launched a new coffee company along with a brick-and-mortar store in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Kupp shared a little bit of the meaning behind their new shop, “Dodo Coffee Company.”

“Looking through our roasts you’ll see that aside from Zacapa, a region in Guatemala, all are named after extinct birds from the coffee beans respective areas of origination,” Cooper began to write. “From the names to the beans, from the earth to the body, everything we put in front of you we want to do intentionally. We hope you enjoy!”
