Cooper Kupp Signs Extension With LA Rams: ‘We Pray Each Day to Be a Light in This World’

By Movieguide® Staff

Coming off their Super Bowl victory last season, Los Angeles Rams star Cooper Kupp signed a contract extension.

The 28-year-old receiver put up career numbers last year while leading the Rams to their first Super Bowl championship since 2000.

“God is good. On the mountains and in the valleys, He has been with us every step of the way,” Kupp wrote on Twitter in an announcement about his return to LA. “While we have been afforded the privilege to play such an amazing game, it is with humility we know each moment here is intentional, albeit temporary.

“We pray each day to be a light in this world, filled and guided by His spirit, and to make the most of every day according to His will. For His Glory!” he added.

Kupp earned the receiving triple crown with 145 catches for 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns during the 2021-2022 regular season. Kupp became one of four players to achieve the feat of leading the NFL in those three categories, joining former NFL talent like Jerry Rice, Sterling Sharpe, and Steve Smith.

Despite his success on the field, Kupp pointed to Christ as his true and better fulfillment in life.

“You will find that you are most fulfilled — you’ll find the most joy — when you are rooted in your purpose, and specifically rooted in His purpose for you. … My motivation coming in to every single day is to run the race in such a way as to honor God with the passions and the talents that He’s given me. When I’m rooted in that, I’m in a great place.”

Kupp also won the Super Bowl MVP award after the Rams defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20.

“I don’t know, I don’t feel deserving of this. God is just so good,” he told the press after the game. “I’m just so thankful for the guys I get to be around, for the coaches, for my family.”

Kupp has been open about his faith throughout this season.

“I think the thing that He has taught me is that you will find that you are most fulfilled, you will find the most joy, when you are rooted in your purpose, and specifically rooted in His purpose for you. That, to me, has been one of the best things about this year,” Kupp told Sports Spectrum.

“My motivation coming in every single day is to run the race in such a way as to honor God and the passions and the talents that He’s given me,” Kupp said. “When I’m rooted in that, I am in a great place. I am able to play freely.”
