Why This Hit Artist Says It’s Critical to Put ‘God at the Helm’

As a dad of two and as the spiritual leader for his family, singer Jordan Feliz learned the hard way that you’ve got to put God first — every single day. But the reward is great.

“I grew up in church my whole life, and it’s like, ‘Always put God at the top of your priority list’…and I think I got so numb to that statement because I’m like, ‘Okay, yeah, like, I’m gonna put God at…the helm of my life. I’m going to do it right,’ but then you actually get into real life, and…you realize that that is not easy to do,” Feliz explained on the “Dad Tried” podcast last month. “That’s a fight every day for me.”

But when he does “fight” and make God number one, he feels a lot better and less like he’s on his own.

“I woke up at like 4:30 in the morning, and I gave it to God this morning, and I’ve just been crushing it ever since, you know? What I mean because that’s another thing…the religious aspect is we hear that, like, when we do that, when we give our life to the Lord, when we give our relationship with our wife, when we give a relationship with the kids, you know, it’s like dude, everything is just like it’s perfect, you know? [But] it’s not totally, and it never will be,” the “Witness” singer said

“Our lives are not promised easy. Our lives have never been promised, like, anything, to be simple or right. And in any capacity, it’s like God actually has promised us the moment that we are believers, we’ve actually been promised trials and tribulations,” he said.

“It’s not like this…fairy tale…and then we just waltz into heaven and that was it, you know?” he continued, “What I mean [is] it’s like no actually we have to go through this life and this world is going to you know increasingly grow in its hatred for us.”

Feliz says the only way to navigate that is to let God be at the helm.

“In that in that moment, we know who we’re going to as our provider. We know who we’re going to as our peace. We know and that practice is what can change your entire life,” he said.

Movieguide® reported how Feliz makes his marriage sacred:

Feliz stands by the biblical teaching that marriage is between one woman and one man and pointed to Ephesians 5:33 as inspiration for how he loves his wife, Jamie.

“Honoring marriage is one of the greatest gifts. As believers, it’s a biblical principle that we have to [uphold]. There are a lot of things in Ephesians that talk about it. But one of my favorite things in Ephesians 5, it just says seek the best for your wife,” he told Faithwire. “I think that’s a part of wanting to make marriage great, is meeting your person in the middle of life and always being there no matter what.”

In June, Feliz released a single called “Praise God for That” about giving thanks to God for everything, even the smallest things. He wrote it with accomplished songwriters Jonathan Gamble and Colby Wedgeworth.

The chorus reads: “Can I get a hallelujah // Someone saying Amen // Can I get a thank You Jesus // Lord have mercy // Praise Him // For all the goodness that He’s shown in your life // If you gotta song inside your soul don’t hold it back // Somebody praise God for that.”

Near the end of this month, Feliz will light up stages across the U.S. on his Everything Good tour from Sept. 21 to Nov. 8.
