Rock and Roll legend Alice Cooper explained how his relationship with God became the most important thing in his life after years of pursuing the things of this world.

“I knew deep down inside of me that my relationship with God was absolutely in the bottom drawer when it should have been in the top drawer,” Cooper told TBN. “That ate away at me and ate away at me and ate away at me to the point where finally I had to get off that fence and say, ‘I’m not going to just kind of be a guy that likes God. I’m going to be a guy that is for Him, not against Him.’ I had to pick a side, and that’s really where I became a Christian.”

Though Alice Cooper made this decision later in life, he realizes that God at work all the time.

When he found fame through rock and roll, he was met with an emptiness inside that led him to develop alcohol and cocaine addictions. At the same time, his marriage was on the brink because his wife was not willing to stay with an addict.

“I flushed the [cocaine] down the toilet and went to bed for three days, and I woke up, and I called her and I said, ‘It’s done,’” Cooper told Greg Laurie in 2021. “She goes, ‘Right, you have to prove it.’ That was the beginning of our relationship coming back.”

“One of the deals was we started going to church,” Cooper continued. “I was a poster boy for everything wrong, and then when I got sober and came back to the church, I realized that’s where I belong.”

Not only has the Lord helped restore Cooper’s family life, but He has protected Cooper from falling back into his old habits by keeping him from craving drugs or alcohol.

“I never went to AA. Everyone said, ‘Oh you have such great willpower,’ I said, ‘No, God has great willpower. He took it from me.’ My dad was a pastor, my grandad was a pastor, [my wife’s] dad was a pastor. I had such strong prayer for me,” Cooper said. “Even the doctor said, ‘This is an absolute miracle.’ I said, ‘Why?’ They said, ‘Well, you should be hiding bottles all over the house and you should be sneaking drugs.’ I said, ‘I have absolutely no desire for that at all.’”

Cooper’s story is a testament to the fact that the Lord is never done working on people. He can transform those who seem furthest from Him and help them find a new life centered on truth rather than the follies of this world.
